I read that some kid put the lantern moth into a science fair thing recently and it sparked a government investigation lol. Apparently they are really invasive, and the state the kid was in didn't have any reports of them.

The insect goes after specific trees and plants that could wreck havoc on NYs forestland and agriculture:

They have no natural predators and destroy flora like it's going out of business

2 years ago they were FLOODING Philly to a point that I saw hundreds of squished bug corpses on just a single city block.

Pretty insane they're as deceptively beautiful as they are destructive.

Yeah, I recall my job getting a delivery and they had a sticker for Spotted Lantern Fly compliance on the sleeper, apparently truck drivers are required to do full inspections of their trucks in certain areas to make sure the winged bastards aren't sneaking out.

They spread like wildfire in NE Philly last year. Within a month we went from occasionally seeing 1 a week to seeing a dozen plus a DAY.

The coloring is so good, though. Shame it belongs to such an annoying and invasive fucker.

The things are freaking annoying to kill, sometimes it helps to try to come at them from the front when stepping on them instead of the back since then they'll just jump away while giving you the finger if you come from the back
