A small part of me would love to see this game be updated slowly again, and potentially bridging the OSRS and RS3 schism. Start off with Runescape 2, and develop it normally until 2007, and then when the schism happened, combine both paths and make a totally different game out of it. Never implement Bonds or Microtransactions, never mess with free trade and the wilderness.

The problem is that this game has already been solved. It's not possible to create that type of thing, and the playerbase will create things like custom clients, bot/wrt like crazy, and demand QoL.

They did not. They basically forked the game and it became shit.

What exactly are you after here? OSRS with RS3's xp rates, no bonds, and lack of QoL?

Because outside of that.....i kinda agree....

It's not really a "schism," because those versions never actually split. The only schism was RSC to rs2 when both servers kept running simultaneously (but RSC stopped updating shortly thereafter). OS didn't come around until 2012 or 2013 and was built on an old 2006/2007 back-up of the game. It's just its own thing.

The problem with OS is that it never got a ton of basic QoL updates -- no lobby system, no coin pouch, no toolbelt, the energy system is a mess, etc. And, for whatever reason, the chat system is only partially integrated between both games.

RS is over-designed with non-stop UI updates and it often runs poorly, whereas OS is just kinda gimped. I'd love to see more QoL updates trickle into OS, but, if they were doing another version, I'd want to see the OS concept applied to RSC.

Bonds aren't going anywhere. They're always going to be a part of each version.

You're in the minority here, TC.

OSRS has been the answer to most of the problems that created a large wedge in the player base when they launched the "Evolution of Combat" in late 2012. The player-led content decisions have made OSRS one of the best games in terms of how much developers listen to the concerns of their players.

As someone that originally started Runescape 2 in September 2004, I think it's as of about this month that I officially can say I've played OSRS for longer than I played Runescape 2. And I've certainly enjoyed it more consistently than RS2. The biggest problem I've had is when they nerfed a bunch of ranged items earlier this year, but I really don't give a shit.

Except when 95% of players are saying "Don't nerf that shit!"

Players are probably the least qualified about how a game should be run.

Because the people who should run things are the ones who know nothing about the product? That's the WWE's approach, and look how well that's worked out for them
