I cant help but notice this trend among cat owners. Seriously man, what's up with that

Dog owners meanwhile, are usually content with just one dog

Can't speak for every situation, but some cats are bonded and (responsible) rescues will not allow them to be separated.

I got two so that they could keep each other company.

We got cats rather than dogs because both me and the girlfriend are out all day.

affection. multiple cats means a higher chance you'll actually get some form of affection from one of them at any given time while the others are being aloof assholes. with dogs, they love you all day long.

Cat care is basically chucking food and water in a bowl. Letting them simply roam free, while utterly irresponsible, is socially and legally accepted. They're an extremely low-effort and low-cost pet, so people who impulsively get their first one aren't really put off from getting another.

Usually people feel bad, and want a friend for their cat.

Cat's are low maintenance. The work involved in a second cat isn't much more than one cat.

People just like cats.

Then why dont the same logic apply to dogs?? Get another dog as a friend then.

Also why cant you just be friends with your own solo cat?

There are plenty of people with multiple dogs for that reason, but for each additional dog comes a lot more responsibility compared to cats.

There are also plenty of people who only have one cat for all sorts of reasons, be it rental agreements, just not wanting multiple cats, or a cat with a single cat only temperament. I'm not really sure what kind of answer you're looking for.

they tend to be social animals, despite also being introverted, and especially when they're kittens they appreciate the companionship and play and attention and socialization they get from each other.

That's why we adopted a second kitten originally.

Now our two original cats are older. But we went to the store last year and were looking at the rescue cats and there was this little kitten who you could tell had an URI and she came up to me and meowed and grabbed at my finger through the cage and she was stepping in her water dish and I just had to take her :|

It's easier to raise 2 over 1 since they don't become needy and dependant on you and they always have someone to interact with.

Dogs also cost several times more money than a cat.

I initially just had one cat. I have two cats now, one's from a litter from the previous one and the other's a rescue cat. I don't neccesarily intend to have many cats but they certainly don't require as much personal attention as dogs so I think some people can be persuaded to have more. It gets pretty bad if people think you're the cat person though, everyone who ends up with a cat that needs a home thinks it's a good idea to take it to the person have already has cats.

Lol I don't think I was adopted but considering my parents were 40 and 60 when they had me and my next oldest brother has 8 years on me I don't think I was planned.

Cats sleep 18 hours a day so more cats means more likely to interact with a cat.

Oh lmao.

Yeah she definitely didn't give us any other choice. I'm glad we got her when we did, she had a lot of weird health issues and I don't know if she would have passed away at the shelter or if another family would have had the time / been there when these issues manifested.

Because cats are social creatures that are better behaved in pairs (if adjusted together) and the cost minus vet fees are basically the same to have two cats versus one.

Source: I have two cats (and two dogs).

i had this issue. i favored the dog a bit more than the cat.
it was a mostly outside cat. i even tried to switch her to healthier food. she wouldn't have that.

as for vet visit i always made sure she got cared for (especially when she got an abscessed tooth and the broken jaw incident by car).

So Scully is more like my wife's cat and Mulder is my little boy and when we bought Desi home I had a rough time because we had to keep her separated for a couple of weeks, and someone had to be with her all the time. And the first few days Mulder wouldn't come near me at all and when he did sometimes he would hiss and slap at me and it broke my heart. Things are back to normal now though Scully still whacks the kitten sometimes. Mulder and her get along though and they cuddle in their little cat beds. And Scully actually started showing me more affection lol.

I think the cats can tell your intentions and as long as you make an honest effort to be involved with both of them then they will be fine.

Is you have an older cat definitely a good idea to try fostering first though
