Ive lent 500 to a diff friend before. He said it was to help with the new baby.

He never paid me back but he was happy to brag about his new tattoos and expensive cookware set.

i had a cousin asking for money after he broke his neck fucking around on an ATV like a dumbass, made it sound like he was halfway dead and drowning in medical bills. two months later everyone found out it was a minor fracture, his insurance paid his bills in full, he'd recovered completely, and he'd taken all the donation money and bough himself a $3k designer dog...

yeah i'm generally against lending people money at this point.

A diff friend of mine died this year. He had 3 kids. His ex, a known drug addict who doesnt have any custody because shes too busy gettin her drank'n'smoke on, is begging for donations "for post secondary education for the kids".

But she won't establish a trust, she wont even do a gofundme, instead she wants cash donations directly to her.

I tried explaining to others that this is not the right way to do it and i got accused of....accusing her of squandering the money. "What, you don't trust her?"....well, i havent met her, but no i dont trust her. Also, a trust keeps the money safe from any of her legal debts. And it can grow. "Oh we dont trust the banks". Jesus. The poor kids, man.

$500 isn't too much, I would do it once but make it abundantly clear that if he doesn't make an effort to pay it back in good faith then I'm not going to lend any more.

They might not care and they might go ask the next person but I'm not going to be out more than $500. And if that other person they go to is a mutual acquaintance then that next person is probably also aware of this situation and can make an informed decision.

Like my brother did this to me. Told me my dad was in the hospital and not feeling well, I was overseas, got permission to fly back, took care of my dad for a full month. Somewhere along the line that brother was driving through the state, I assumed he was going to stop. His car broke down, he asked me for money to fix it, I wired him money, he didn't stop to see our dad.

One of the last times I've spoken to that brother and he's never asked for anything since...

Very true. Its just a shame that youre getting flak for thinking wisely about the situation. Its fine if others want to help and do whatever it is they want to do, but chances are so high that shell squander the money that anyone willing to lend or give to her has to be turning a blind eye to those facts.

He also owes on his other place cuz he thought you could just move out early after trashing the place. All his shit is still there, including (allegedly) a thousand pounds of canned food.

He was often responsible in the past but nowadays cant get certain things in order. His weed use getting out of control is a major reason, i think. Also the qanon shit. It pretty much consumed his life; it's his only hobby. To be a "freethinker". MFer doesnt even watch sports or play the vidya anymore
