Well how many?

Two years ago I cleaned them out so bad they didn't even bother returning last year:

http://imgur.com/a/lRc13H8

"One prize per person per day," they said.....

Well I guess after skipping a year they realized they have too many prizes in storage or miss the lessons or something, so I'm going in again. This time, I'll be wearing a mask...you know, in case they recognize me.

Tag myself.

I truly don't expect to go all ten days of the fair this year. Covid's real and I hear there's a lot of maskless people at these fairs, so I'm gonna try to only go in the daytime hours I can to beat the rush.

Also got a goal this time! The game I'm looking fkr is Stand the Bottle or Bottle Up, depending on the fair -- basically, you try to stand a beer bottle up on a slanted platform with a fishing rod-lookong thing that has a rong at the end. A lot of these places do five dollars for one try or ten dollars for four tries.

I'm going for the first time every time.

Two years ago it never took me more than three times to win. I've been practicing the past month and have gotten myself up to 80% accuracy even had a sixteen-stand streak at one point, a personal best.

Can I stand it on the first try every time this year?

Yes.

BUT WILL I?!?!?!

I...might be able to do that. I know where six of my masks are right now, but I moved recently too and dunno where my others are yet. I may not be going more than six times...so maybe that's the thing this year. Two years ago it was game shirts.

Also, right away this fair is playing DIRTY this year. There's a train struck for like the past hour and I'm stuck here sweating in a jam. Looks like it's blocking the surrounding roads too.

Pretty scared of my return, I see.

So I eat at a nearby restaurant that lets me park there in return for eating there and now I'm full on good fries and saucy BBQ.

Few minutes later, I'm at the not-so pearly gates to the fair. Online I saw it would open at 3:00. I get there at about 4:15 and I am the four person there -- just two parents and their kid ahead of me, all in matching tie-dye they made at their local church. The father had the worst of the designs -- mostly white with jist a few splotches, right -- and his hat was one of those social/political commentary hats that lets you know what he thinks you should stand and kneel to. Despite his headwear expecting compliance from my posture though, they were all nice and we pass the time talking about vehicle rodeos. Their son's phone is making Mario sound effects all over the place.

They eventually bring us in, but not before making us back up and shrink our space a bunch between us. I turn around and see a long line behind me...not counting me, I think three were masked...and I'm in a state where this shit is spiking again, right...so I just get in line and know my future plans the next few days are probably shot -- I can't rely on the fair schedule and I don't want to feel the need to isolate myself over and over this week just in case of a bas situation. Red flag.

I immediately get in when it opens to scout the area. There's a bad feeling right away. The man who draws cartoon versions of people isn'r there and there's no sign for the Magnificent Mutts stunt-dogs either. We don't even have anybody trying ro guess your weight and age, nor can I see a brll up in the sky for someone to slam a mallet into. Red flag again -- if this was a spy movie, I would have been calling for back-up and asking what sort of mission is this?

There's a guy at a ring-toss game with plastic ducks. I talk with him...dude just laughs at everything. I pay two dollars for five ring tosses, but not before having hin tell me the secret to the game -- yiu gotta throw the rings vertically to get them under the beak. The secret didn't help -- those plastic ducks stared me down with their dead plastic eyes and defeated me. No prize.

Now, sometimes when you play these games, you're not just buying ring tosses. You're buying inside information. This informant didn't have the information I needed about the game I'm looking for though, unfortunately. No prize and no info? Alright buddy keep laughing at my jokes but I'm bustin' out.

I decide to just go look for the bottle game.

Imma just say it: it's bad news. They don't have the bottle game this year.

I looped around twice after not seeing it in its usual spot. No sign.

As I'm walking around, a guy calls me over the play the darts-and-balloons game. He was a good salesman -- had the hustle down on how to get your attention and have your interest in playing before getting you to pay. His name was either Jack or it was a slur I'm not going to repeat -- legitimately think he said the slur when I asked his name, especially since when I asked his name he didn't just say the name but said "they call me ___." I think the darts were dulled on the red darts and sharp on the blue darts -- balloons were hit all four times I tried, but only the blue ones popped. I don't trust him much at this point and back out. He says I get a prize off the bottom row though, so I get the American flag-flamingo The fair probably got these for fifteen cents a pop

I take this moment to ask him and the woman he was with about the bottle game. He talks just a little less smoothly now and says it would be added probably Monday, but I'm skeptical. I've been hurt before...mainly today by dull darts and the lack of this bottle game. I leave not really believing him.

I also ask a hotdog vendor, ticket booth aalewoman, and the runner of the catch-a-shark-with-a-fishing-pole game what's up with the bottle game. They didn't know about the game, but the ticket booth saleswoman says any venders there this week would also be there tonight.

This.
Sucks.

I sadly eat a footlong corndog by the pond. The corndog was too big for the ketchup pump's set-up at the table and the pond didn't have anybody paddle-boating like they did in 2019. Deep thoughts go down with the fresh but dry corndog.

I decide it's time to leave, but I go win one nore little prize first. I go catch some sharks for five dollars., winning me a green frog that's a little bigger than the flamingo.

Much like Kentucky Avenue in a game of Monopoly, it s a long path back to where the free parking is. I walk back thinking the fair defeated me, and yes that's one interpretation...but you know what another interpretation in? They ain't showed their faces in town with that game since I went 10/10 on them two yearso ago They retired that game. They quit. They resigned.

Their loss. They got ~$260 from me in 2019 and they can't get that again now this year. Also though, now I personally got some 'splainong to do because I had a non-profit I sponsoring me this time for a few of these animals and now that can't be done. Dangit.

Also-also, my dad was at a different fair earlier this summer and won this so I'm gonna hear him rub it in awhile:

How much did they lose on the huge stuffed animals you won, though?

Anyway, sorry to see it's not back. Might be good to check Monday anyway - perhaps they just want you to think they're not there so you give up and don't clean them out again.

Bummer - was looking forward to this sequel!

Last time this came up, it turned out that bulk prices on those stuffed animals are really, really low. To the point where they potentially still made a profit.

My previous estimate in those biggest hugest most ginormously-large stuffed animals can be purchased in bulk for about $15 each or $100+ individually.

Let's say it was $15 each for ten days...that's $150. The other ~$110 was spent on entry fees, carnival food, and the occasional ride/game/purchase last year.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out of that one balloon-darts guy wanted me to xome back fater and lose more money at the door, be discouraged about coming back soon since I was asking about a specific game they may have up soon, or it was just honesty.

I'm reaching out to friends who might be going this next week to keep an eye out for me if they see it before the end of the fair. My parents may be in town next week as well -- if so and there's no sooner updates, we might just go take a look for ourselves again.

I'll reminisce a moment for ya.

2019 was a good fair. The first day, the game-runners are all shook that I could do it. The second day, they accused me of finessing them (which is why I now call my prizes the 20## Finesse Collection) The third day, they realize I am not going to stop

Let's dive into that fourth or fifth day a minute though.

I go there in the middle of the day -- it's hot and few people are there. One of the game-runners is there by himself...think his name was Kudi, maybe. He sees me walking up to him, and he looks like how I imagine Sans looks in a genocide run.

I tell him I'd like to play. He tells me no. Nobody's around and I don't really know how to appeal the decision, ya know? I remind Kudi of the rule: one prize per person per year. He says okay...but then tries to charge me double the price to play. Again, I dunno who to dispute this with, so I use my improv experiences to yes-and him and say that's fine bevause then I'll get double the prizes.

Kudi backs down and lets me play at the correct price now...but he still has one more trick up his sleep.

He takes my rod and runs his hands over it making the sound of what I assumed was a magical chant. This lasts five or ten seconds before he hands it back to me.

"There, it's cursed."

My eyes need to refocus. "...it's cursed?"

"Yeah. Cursed."

Nobody is nearby.

'You're on."

I then stand the bottle on the first try. Kudi is broken like the curse. He then takes my picture of me with either the purple monkey or blue elephant (I forget) and I leave with a smile.

In hindsight, not only was the curse broken, but the whole timeline began to rip then too.
