The Department of Justice has sued the state of Texas over a new law that bans abortions after about six weeks, before most people realize they are pregnant, all but halting the procedure in the country's second-largest state.Of course, this is exactly what the law was made for, to get Roe v. Wade back in front of the Supreme Court. Wouldn't be amazing if despite the 6-3 Conservative slant, the SC ruled in favor of Roe v. Wade? --- I often wonder if we are growing as a people... or in fact, regressing. ... Copied to Clipboard!

The SC does tend to rule somewhat on precedent so them shooting down the Texas bill isn't that crazy

This is just what "results-based" politics does. You know the end state you want - you just have to find ambiguously legally-viable means to get there, regardless of how arcane and convoluted that legal mechanism ends up being.

WhatTexas wanted to ban abortions, somehow. That "somehow" ended up being implementing a de facto ban via the civil courts, by institutiong a civil "bounty" system of sorts. It's not a whole hell of a lot different than establishing a vaccine mandate via roundabout OSHA regulations, or leveraging the commerce clause to ban in-state marijuana. ... Copied to Clipboard!
