Cars, trucks, whatever. Passenger vehicles. People who are interested in the acquisition and use of passenger vehicles for purely recreational purposes, such as leisure driving or racing. I can't help but feel a lack of respect when I hear about it.

A few days ago on reddit I was reading a post of some guy who bought an expensive sports car that only gets 15 mpg and that he's taken it out on joyrides (no other purpose) an average of 50 miles a day since he got it months ago. Ridiculous.

I say leisure driving instead of any and all driving because you can't fully fault people for needing a vehicle to get to and from work to earn a living, and to places of business to purchase goods and services. Though, some people have the means and still could make a choice to live and work in an area that reduces their commute, but choose not to for a variety of reasons.

Is there any other hobby/interest that is as actively damaging to the planet, with the majority of the costs payed by society instead of the one partaking in the activity? It's barely any different from getting enjoyment from purchasing gasoline and burning from a canister.

I think the only other thing would be long distance recreational travel, by any mode of transportation that requires fuel (surprise, also related to vehicles).

I think the most frustrating part is the number of them who are completely against the idea of a self-driving car-only future solely on the basis of "I like driving". No you don't get to hold back all the societal benefits of getting rid of human drivers just because of a hobby.

Yeah. How dare people's interests be different than yours.

There are many interests that are not my interests.

I'm not talking about this one because of what it isn't, I'm talking about it because of what it is.
