Decent movie, probably the best "origin" MCU film. The action scenes in the first 2 acts were really well done and I'm glad they didn't try to go the "shaky camera" angle like so many western action films always do. With that said, by the 3 act the fights got more CGI heavy, which probably made it the weakest part of the film. Glad to say that Awkwafina wasn't like in the Last Dragon and was pretty funny when it needed to be. There were some forced humor, but it wasn't overdone like in Thor Ragnarok or GotG2.

Not the best film, but it was entertaining enough especially for a MCU film. Gets a 8/10 for me.

I wasn't expecting a Soul eating Cthulu bat dragon to be the final boss

That's the part that brough it down for me. It's a martial arts type of movie, you would think there would be more of that especially in the third act. But no, we get the typical MCU cgi bullshit. I really wish it was something Shang Chi can actually use his rings against in a hand to hand combat like against his father. Otherwise still a good movie, I still think the Dad had more potential to be a recurring villain like Ultron, so yeah was disapointed he was killed off. But i did enjoy how they made the dad a pretty 3-dimensional villain.

I understand that critique. It's quite reasonable given how realtively low key it was most the rest of the film.

That said the graceful Great Protector Dragon is pretty standout among MCU CGI IMO. Definitely fitting the overall themes of the film as Eastern dragons tend to have a more more graceful, serpentine, elemental representation compared to the firey brutality of western dragons.

Oh it's a beautiful movie and did justice to asian representation (and not just from the casting, but from the back drops and setting as well). I just wish it was more like how the first 2 acts were. That fight with the where Shang fought that ninja dude that abused him when he was younger, at the underground arena was really well done.

There is a theory that the reason why Captain Marvel, Wong, and Bruce Banner can't figure out where the rings come from is because they hadn't actually been invented yet in the timeline. Kang the Conqueror made them in the future, brought them back to the past when he became Rama Tut, and for some reason they were left behind and lost until The Mandarin found them.

I'm down for that theory, sounds really cool.

Unfortunately, it was never explained. Though I'm betting it's because making a cgi-less Bruce Banner was cheaper to do, there will be an in universe thing explaining it.

I doubt cost had anything to do with it. They had plenty of CGI in the movie.

Saw one theory that it was easier for Bruce to continue working in a lab with one arm than Professor Hulk to do it so they agreed to let Hulk rest while the arm finished healing

There's also the upcoming She-Hulk series and the classic method of her getting her powers is a blood transfusion from Banner since he's her cousin. I imagine that's much easier to do when he's Bruce rather than Hulk.

Of course he's pretty protective of making sure no one else is exposed to his blood in the MCU so I'm curious to see if they take that route and how they justify it.

The fights were amazing. Using actual martial artists felt like the missing piece in all these Marvel fights. Usually it's just famous actors waving their hands around, but these guys were like all straight up martial artists which adds such a cool element. I had to make my own topic about it lol.

Yeah I realize how stupid my post sounded when I reread it. This is Disney and Marvel we're talking about lol.

It's why Jackie Chan films look so good in comparison to a lot of western action films. The problem is, making good action scenes like Shang Chi takes a long ass time to do, especially when it's not just a CGI fest like in a lot of MCU films. What happens in a lot of western films is that because they have to film these in a short amount of time and the actors they use normally are not good fighters in general (because they're actor/actresses of course) they have to rely on shit like dark lighting or shaky camera to offset it. The fact I was able to keep up with all the action scenes in this movie just shows how much I missed crap like that lol.

He probably got de-Hulk-ed due to budget, not for Shang Chi but in general. If he was professor Hulk here but regular in She-Hulk, people will accuse Marvel of being cheap for their tv shows. Probably want you to know he has been de-Hulk-ed now
