*cheaper than
**for 2 people

Like when we cook its good food, its not really cheap. If you eat ramen its like 40 cents yeah. Lets say you want to make like a decent pasta

Chicken-6-10 dollars
pasta- 2-4 dollars
garlic-2-3 dollars
veggies-2-5 dollars

options for sauces
canned - 2-5 dollars
home made sauces can reach plus 10 dollars. We almost reach 10 dollars itself by using white wine sauce

not counting money spent on seasonings, lemons, etc..

or you can get 3-4 items from a value menu for a couple bucks and use rewards

You are putting $3 worth of garlic into a single meal of pasta?

I agree. The cost savings go out the window if you are cooking for one. You can offset it a bit with meal prep, but I've never been able to keep my food fresh for that long.

Not really. A thin salmon filet itself is 5 dollars on sale at the counter. After taxes, youre already looking at 12 dollars

Frozen Lasagna: 7 dollars
Make at home with proper ingredients: at least 15-20 dollars

The taste is night and day, but certainly not cheaper.

Yea man if you are trying to eat healthy on a budget, salmon filet is uhhh not even close to where you should start

Like

It is more expensive to eat healthy (though not as much as i think youre suggesting)
And arguably more importantly, it is a lot more work to cook/clean for a healthy fresh meal (which is a big deal if you have a physically exhausting job)

But your examples are dumb

yea if you go strictly mcdonalds/taco bell value menu then yea you can get a few things and spend like $5-6 per person for a meal. but most combo meals from fast food is like $10+.

some meal at home are definitely more than others. but some can be pretty cheap for a lot. spaghetti is a good one.

$1-2 box of noodles
$2-3 store sauce
$5 or so for some hamburger
$1 or so for fresh onion and garlic

even that you could make a bit cheaper just using onion and garlic seasoning at home but fresh stuff is way better. could use store brand pasta sauce for like $1 a jar. but even at most you're looking at about $10 for a family sized meal that can feed 4 or 5 people pretty easy.

you just have to mix in rice and cheaper foods to go with some of your more expensive ones.

I live in NYC and have found it surprisingly easy to get good food cheap here. A $9 package of porkchops can easily be 4 dinners for me, to give an example. But also I have to get on two buses and spend 30 minutes to get to a grocery store that I know will have all the stuff I want.

Buying groceries generally produces

A: More servings

B: Better nutrition

C: Doesn't accumulate gas costs or delivery fees, especially if you buy every 2-3 days and just walk it

Fast food is really expensive lol

depends. if you supplement your calories with a chicken sandwich it might seem that way, but if you did that for every meal it will add up quick. also if you're comparing shit tier value menus vs. a well-rounded, good, home cooked meal with organic meats and veggies and fresh pasta, fast food is going to look cheaper in the short term.

I don't think you are considering the quality comparison. When you get a chicken sandwich for $2 on a value menu, you aren't getting breaded chicken breast, you are buying the shredded, processed patty that is similar to what you get in a 79 cent Banquet frozen dinner. One 6 pack of dollar hamburger rolls and there you go, minus a slice of lettuce and some mayo. Essentially a chicken sandwich made at home for a dollar.

If you could go to McDonalds and get a chicken alfredo plate with a side of broccoli for under $2 you have more of an argument.

The factor of time is often not being considered either.

If you think a single mom with a full time job has time to do that shit every night youre living in a fantasy.

Sadly its cheaper and easier to make crap than is it to prepare a balanced meal with all fresh ingredients.

Eating at home is cheaper and way healthier than fast food if done correctly.

The key is volume. You either have to be okay with eating the same thing repeatedly or know how to make different things with similar ingredients.

The quantity of ingredients you could buy for the prices you're quoting should feed two people for multiple meals.

Depends what you need, want, and expect in a meal. If you frequently want to make something on par with restaurant food, your budget will feel it. If you're okay with eating simple meals that are sustenance above all else, homemade meals are going to save you a lot of money and likely be the cheapest way for most people. Think things like stews, soups, loaves, and casseroles that just hit your caloric and macro needs instead of some slobber knocker of a meal multiple times a week and your bill will plummet, especially if you can buy in bulk.
