A rural Oklahoma doctor said patients who are taking the horse de-wormer medication, ivermectin, to fight COVID-19 are causing emergency room and ambulance back ups.

Theres a reason you have to have a doctor to get a prescription for this stuff, because it can be dangerous, said Dr. Jason McElyea.

Dr. McElyea said patients are packing his eastern and southeastern Oklahoma hospitals after taking ivermectin doses meant for a full-sized horse, because they believed false claims the horse de-wormer could fight COVID-19.

The ERs are so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting to facilities where they can get definitive care and be treated, he said.

Right now there is one single valid reason to be fully unvaccinated (not even a single dose of any covid vaccine) in the USA, and that is if you have a known/confirmed allergy to at least one component in ALL AVAILABLE VACCINES.

Because the vaccines have different compositions, it is highly likely that at least one of the three available in the US would be fine for all but the rarest individual that may not even exist.

That's all there was to it? What kind of penalty did a person face for violating this law? How did this law compare to other non-disclosure laws of other dangerous STD's? What if the sexual encounter didn't result in the second party becoming infected? What if protection was used? What if both parties had the virus? What if the sexual act was oral copulation which can't result in transmission? What about other, non-sexual ways to transmit the virus such as sharing needles? What about non-sexual acts that can't result in transmission such as spitting on someone?

And they just removed the law with nothing in its place?

Correction: The original law made it a felony. The amended law has downgraded that to a misdemeanour, bringing it in line with other STI's. It's still illegal to conceal HIV from a partner, the penalty for it has just been reduced. This reflects the advances that have been made in HIV prevention and treatment, which ultimately mean that HIV is no longer so much worse than every other STI that concealing it warrants a much harsher punishment than any other STI would see.

Personally, I'd be more in favour of upgrading the response to other STI's to be in line with HIV's severity, rather than downgrading HIV (ultimately, concealing an STI is a form of rape and should be treated as such), but downgrading it is a logically consistent decision. I can agree with trying to be consistent, even if there's still room for improvement.

A poster over the internet posted something I'm not informed about, I took it at face value as I have no interest to research it, no interest to share the info with others, and asked for a reference if I cared to look into it later. That's exactly how misinformation spreads. Taking anything from anywhere purely at face value isn't a good idea, at least not when it leads to opinions that might influence your actions further down the road.

An assumption based on the tendency of many people to do the same. If the last year and a half of seeing this pandemic unfold has taught me anything, it's that people are awfully quick to spread misinformation because they don't want to fact check it. If you aren't, that's good, but it certainly sounded like you were, so you can't blame people for being concerned about that.

This information has been clarified in this topic and is easily searchable. You are referring to SB-239 where California modernized its HIV-related exposure laws to be in line with other STIs (such that all treatable STIs are treated the same).

HIV-specific laws are a vestige of its previous status as an untreatable and debilitating disease, and maintenance of these laws now serve to stigmatize groups which are associated with it (gay men, sex workers, those who use injectable drugs).

At this point in history there is not really a rationale to treat HIV transmission any differently from HSV or even chicken pox, because HIV is entirely treatable.

If you've ever had a cold sore or chicken pox, you could transmit these to another person during sex. Do we always discuss having had a cold sore or chicken pox at any time earlier in our lives with any and every sexual partner?

Needing sex with a human as a human and not wanting to tell the other person about it because of denial is vastly different than catching a virus and unintentionally passing it on to others, because its a virus and easily transmissible without ones knowledge.

Id also like you to provide citations for your claims that it was definitely an anti-vaxxer who brought Covid to your place of work. My gf has Covid, shes double-vaxxed, and was told to stay home for two weeks because she can still pass it on. So, as with any virus, it could have been literally anybody that brought the virus in there. Good luck with those citations.
