So even if I can play solo, being always online means I now have to deal with possible server instability/downtime, patches/maintenance, and no mods. Remember the launches of Sim City 2013 and Diablo 3? The game servers were so bad that people couldn't play the game they paid for. The Borderlands games have great loot systems for full-priced titles, and by adding in a microtransaftion chest in 2 (and retroactively applying it to 1 in its remaster), Gearbox hurt the integrity of the games just a little bit. Switching to a f2p model basically guarantees pay to win, and it incentivises the developers to balance the game in such a way that it wears players down until they're tempted to start spending money on boosts, loot drops and other microtransactions. The fact that devs are doing that in full priced games already is despicable, but making the entire genre f2p is basically the death knell of fair and fun balancing in looter games. --- But I don't have to make this mistake, and I don't have to stay this way.
