I've heard Lenovo makes really good shit (IIRC their laptop division is literally IBM's old division)

Also I'd much rather have a QHD screen than a 4K screen. Plus the Lenovo one is HDR.

Lenovo bears the stigma of being a plain ass work PC hundreds of employers contract them for but they're still incredibly efficient laptops.

Imagine throwing a 3080 in those guts too. Probably handles all the 3D editing software like The Mountain lifting 100lb manlet.

It's like any company really, if you go for a higher end model you're gonna get a higher end product. I will rarely ever spend less than like $800 for a laptop any more because my experience with anything cheaper has *always* been negative. Lenovo included... had a Lenovo from work and it was baller, bought a lower end model for home use and it sucked ass, frame fell apart after several months and it underperformed :(

I was able to stack enough coupons to get the price down quite a lot from msrp, but actually the Lenovo one is still cheaper despite having a larger hard drive and more RAM. Really, the only downside to that one is that it's 1440p instead of 4k, but given that it's a laptop I actually think that's preferable.

4K is a waste of money right now anyways. If you're going for a gaming laptop, 1080p or 1440p at the absolute most. There's nothing on the market that can adequately power a 4K gaming experience.

Well I mean you can do 4K with the higher spec 3080 mobile gpus but at best you're getting 60 frames per second. Certainly not ultra high refresh stuff. That was my big complaint with the alienware, the only options were 1080P or 4K. The laptop 3080 ideally is a 1440p 120 FPS GPU, and I do think Alienware was being pretty unrealistic with their 4K 120 HZ screen. At best, you could probably have a reasonable gaming experience with dlss upscaling to 4K, but would that really be any better than native 1440p?

Although honestly, since they all have HDMI 2.1, an external 4K screen is really the better option if you want to game at 4k. A 16 or 17 inch 4K screen is just a waste.

The Lenovo has a MUX Switch as well as both(!) GSync and AMDs FreeSync, which is pretty awesome too.

Only thing I'm wondering about is the keyboard, I don't have any experience with Lenovo laptop keyboards, but supposedly the Alienware cherry MX keyboard is really good.

I'll be honest - I did as much research as I could on this, but apparently it hasn't been in stock in the US ever. So the only reviews I could find were from the UK and such. But JustinTechTips (really good new-ish YouTube reviewer) liked it better than the MSI Raider and Alienware X17 because the thermals were a lot better. But the HDR 500 nit 1600p screen is quite a nice plus.

If you're referring to the desktop that I bought last year, I had to return it because there were faulty parts inside. It wouldn't boot past the BIOS. I only had it for like a week. As for the laptop, it never shipped. That's the point of this topic.

I've definitely learned my lesson with this brand.

I had a good experience with my Lenovo, my only real nitpick was that it was difficult to open it up and tinker with the insides. Unsure if they made it easier or not to do that. The way the screws were placed and general design made it kind of a pain just to upgrade the RAM.

Think of Lenovo's "Legion" brand as their "Gaming Brand"

Many PC Manufacturing companies have their dedicated "Gaming Brand":

Acer = "Predator"
ASUS = "RoG (Republic of Gamers)".
Dell = "Alienware"
GigaByte = "Aorus".
HP = "Omen"
Lenovo = "Legion"

It's strange, I think they originally argued that Alienware was going to still be a standalone brand, but in every other way except design ethos it's pretty much just Dell at this point

ASUS TUF and ROG are pretty confusing too, since TUF sometimes actually has better performing products than ROG despite being the supposedly cheaper line.

I've always really liked acer, but I can't help but feel like they've started to do the OnePlus thing where they used to be high quality at a very reasonable price, and now they are very high quality at a slightly higher relative price than before. Not that it's a bad thing, but it kind of takes away one of the main selling points.

1440p is actually a Up-side for you IMO.

It's actually a win / win IMO.

Easier for the Video Card to drive =
-> less Pixels to process per frame
-> less Heat generated
-> less fan noise
-> less energy consumed while on battery

For a LapTop, the ideal PPI for a display to seem "Retina" should be around 216-220, Apple got it right when they did the calculations for how dense they want their pixels to be on their Displays.

https://www.designcompaniesranked.com/resources/is-this-retina/

Your Razer Blade 15 with 4K display is too dense and just sucks more battery power & pixel processing power from your GPU.

How long can you game on Battery?
What compromises are made when gaming on Battery?

The Lenovo is closer to ideal, only slightly under.

And on a LapTop, battery power consumption actually does matter to many folks, so not having to drive that many pixels is a win/win no matter how you look at it.
