Legolas is a great character. He represents the purest light of all the movie characters: he believes in the goodness of others, he believes that there is more to life than power, he has no desire for war, and he is willing to sacrifice himself for what he believes to be true. He stands for all that is good and all that is light, and he has even taught the younger generation of people (including Gollum, Smeagol, and Sam) that there is beauty and truth beyond the things of this world. That is why I think hes an awesome character.

But, in this movie and the books, hes a bit like Frodo. He goes off on a quest, but his quest is not necessarily about himself, but rather about something bigger than him. The quest for the ring, to destroy the ring, to complete Saurons work, is also a quest for his life, and Saurons. He is ultimately put through some tough tests.

I don't agree with the common idea that The Hobbit movies were doomed because they were a trilogy. They could have made for a great trilogy I think. But they ended up skimming over stuff they could have filled it out with (like the Mirkwood elven place or Beorn) and replacing it with new dumb stuff. Not all the new stuff was dumb. The Dol Guldur stuff was cool, although I'm not sure how well it flowed with the movie. But the hour~ long scene in the second one of them fighting the dragon? BOO!

I watched one of the fan edits that cut it down to about 4 hours. It was far better but there's some film making decisions that you just can't cut out. Still not really worth watching.

They didn't. They had 2 good movies but decided to add a SUPER SHIT ELF to squeeze a turd from the third
