I'm all for it, but it's already ended in my state and probably won't come back again barring another "complete" shutdown.

Nah, states really need to begin pulling it together if we're ever to start moving forward again

Used the funds handed out to deal with the landlord v tenant thing before another eviction ban happens

Most of the country have done all they can do. If you haven't had the shot yet, clearly you have no interest.
Pick up one of the many available jobs, even if its temporary, pay your bills, stop relying on the government to pay for everything and do your part to stay safe

Naw there are tons of places offering 15 or more an hour as well as big signing bonuses for people with 0 skills because they need workers that badly. Hell, I think Amazon is starting warehouse workers at 18 an hour with 2000 signing bonus

And the vast majority of them were just fine. The fact of the matter is, this virus is now endemic. We need to treat it as such. Get your shot, and get back to life as usual. Just do your part and stop concerning yourself with what other people are doing.

I know people who have family members that are immuno-compromised. I don't blame them for wanting to stay home as much as possible through all this. That, imo, is the only valid reason for someone to keep getting their unemployment benefits, and they should have to prove that they or their family are immuno-compromised. Otherwise, they need to get they ass back to work and quit being a lazy selfish bastard

Wish employers were held responsible, especially since most are doing fantastic during this.
I work in grocery and our numbers are constantly improving. What's not improving is our pay and our benefits are getting cut, sometimes without even telling us.
People don't wanna work and it's sad. What could change that other than the employer giving them more benefits than the government? It's not the government, it's business.
Business doesn't care about people. You let it do whatever and we get another iteration of cigarettes.

It sure is interesting how upset employers are getting when they have to provide competitive wages because there is actually a viable alternative for people to take when they're met with "don't like these wages? You're welcome to look for something that pays better." It's almost like they've been relying on a non-competitive market to get away with providing pitiful wages for decades, while disingenuously suggesting that the workers are at fault for them making that decision.

Businesses have made record profits over the last several decades while wages have stagnated.
Maybe we should just tax corporate profits adequately and we'd have that money.
Making the taxes at point of sale is key. american consumers spend the most in the world, any logical company wants to sell shit here. So tax them on point of sale. Doesn't matter if their HQ is in Ireland. Get rid of all the loopholes and tax breaks. There should only be tax breaks for employing legal U.S. residents.
Then we create a sliding scale. If people here are fully employed, tax revenue stays level. As automation and off shoring replace U.S. workers, more tax money rolls in to fund UBI.

I agree wages have stagnated, but this isn't true competition. It's boosted unemployment benefits, an artificial "competitor" created by the government. And it's an especially nasty "competitor" because even if they were equal, it's a choice between working or not working. The former has to be significantly higher than the latter to be "worth it".
I'd much rather hike min. wage up and index it to inflation, and work on putting UBI in place.
This unemployment stuff is grossly uneven and unfair across the workforce.
