Its the first randomizer Ive tried and its pretty fun. Ill have to change the flags Im using for the next seed I do though because I got Edge and FuSoYa near the beginning and Ive basically breezed through every boss fight as a result (I also had Rosa as one of my two starting characters and found Artemis and Samurai arrows early which just poop out damage on bosses).

I've never even heard of this. But FF4 is probably my favorite of the series and now i'm intrigued.

There is a racing league and it has showed up on a few GDQ shows.

I really did like FF4 but I like Free Enterprise because it is like the opposite of FF4 - instead of being dragged along with the story, you freely explore the map with the goal of getting to the moon and killing Zeromus. (Maybe I should have put a spoiler warning on the topic, oops).

You start out with 2 random characters leaving Baron with an airship. Bosses will be randomized, as in, they will have the same behavior but they will take the scaling of the spot theyre in. A random character will show up in a spot someone would join you in the story (I turn off duplicate and free characters, aka theyre all boss or key-item gated). Key items are randomized too.

I tried a new seed yesterday. I started with Cecil and Tellah and the first boss on Mt Ordeals was Plague. I had to complete basically the entire overworld before I could beat him which was a shame because Cecils level resets after completing Mt Ordeals (which is important because Paladin is when hes actually good. Tellah getting more spells isnt bad either).

It took me 2.5 hours to finish 4/5 objectives, which grants the Crystal. Now I just have to grind a little for the final boss and Ill have finished my first seed. But man getting that last objective

I swear, i had to go to Tower of Babil, to Monster Village (thank god it wasn't the Bahamut encounter), to Sealed Cave, to Magnes Cave, BACK to Tower of Babil, and... I finally got the Pan I needed for the 4th objective.

I love Free Enterprise. I remember the april fools joke they did of making all seeds made on april 1st entirely 8bit.

Yeah I will for sure check it out. It seems like a different version of the FF5 Four Job Fiesta but in this one EVERYTHING is random.

There's a FF5 hack called Career Day that's closer to being open world like Free Enterprise! There's one for 6 too called Worlds Collide!

Free Enterprise is still the most refined but the other ones are kinda cool!

Having encounters on just slows things down. Generally killing bosses gets you enough exp to power on. The Japanese-only Siren item summons the rarest encounter in the area - so if you need levels in the Underworld you can grind a couple of the eggs using those. That item and Bacchus (Berserk self-cast) make J-items 100% worth turning on. Siren farming is also used to grind up to fight the final boss. Once you have 10 key items experience gains double btw.

You can control what is random in seed generation, depending on what flags are set. Though I dont really get the point if key items, bosses and characters arent randomized at the very least.

Anyways I felt the rando was easy to get into as someone whos only beaten the 3D version before, but I have also watched a bunch of runs of the rando so I kind of understand the meta with regards to checking stuff at the very least.

having encounters off is just a treasure hunt and a boss rush. there's no threat.

(i picture kirby super star's arena plus the great cave offensive, only the things you find make kirby stronger and there are no enemies)

it puts me to sleep really really well. ff1 randomizers on the same channel (i imagine this is rpg limit break) at least include encounters so nasty stuff can sideswipe the unexpecting.

Sure but the goal is to clear a seed as fast as you can. Treasure hunt is also literally what a randomizer is. You use the logic to try to figure out the best way to beat the seed.

Also the game can be quite tough if youre only fighting bosses. Last night I got hard walled by Plague like I said. It all depends on the flags you use. Like, for example, theres a flag that removes the starting equipment your characters have, so you have to get lucky and find good equipment for them.

I have mostly been watching on the Free Enterprise YouTube channel. Sometimes they do show up on Games Done Quick and RPG Limit Break though.

Its fine to disagree. Encounters can be toggled for a reason after all, and we both derive something different from it

there definitely are threats when you try to go fast; some encounter spots are very nasty. It's the nature of rando to also randomizes the threats. You also have to build the right party for the flagset you're using.

It's "easy" in the sense that you can clear everything fast, but it takes a fair bit of time and thinking to become really good at it.

I loved free enterprise. I played through a bunch of seeds last year and watched a lot of races at work to pass time.

Shaved 15 minutes off my second seed. The objectives lined up a lot better but it took me a while to find Sirens to grind for the final boss. I had Edge and had to steal them from an Alert enemy (trap chest in Tower of Babil)

Watching the credits looks like I forgot to clear Antlion Cave for Darkness Crystal. Whoops!

Ok, I get why Rydia is not a popular choice for the rando (leveling her without having her take dirt naps is a pain), but getting Leviathan on her makes everything a joke (especially with her wearing Adamant armor so she no longer faceplants constantly)
