Best garage rock/post-punk revival band

Been on a kick from this era thanks to CZ's music topics and interested in the discussion.

For me, it's Brian Jonestown Massacre by quite a bit even though a few others have actually made superior albums.

The White Stripes for me is a fairly easy choice, but The Strokes, The Black Keys and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are up there as well

Probably White Stripes but where would Arctic Monkeys fit in?

Britpop revival (if you want to call it a revival vs a continuation)

Arctic Monkeys is definitely more post-punk revival than anything Britpop. Britpop is so much more upbeat, lighter, and twee. AM was darker and heavier than really anything from Blur or Suede or even The Creases

Fair I wasn't sure if they had to be both.

but Spotify totally put them on the post-garage whatever something playlist it recommended to me with all these other bands

Are you calling Spotify a liar?

(my answer is The Strokes anyway, but Killers would be #2 if we counted them)

Killers definitely came up in that scene, but they are just so very clearly a power pop band. The synths and the cleanliness are in stark contrast to all of the others on the list!

ok Garage rock revival is the actual name of the list. they put Arctic Monkeys on there too.
also Franz Ferdinand, Metric, Sleater-Kinney, and more

but yeah, Killers are definitely much synthier than the rest of the bands were talking about. I dunno what the lines are really.

when I think of "garage rock" I think of stuff like hot snakes, ty segall, the dirtbombs etc.

but I checked the wiki and I guess this early 00's stuff is included too.

I'd say the Hives are my favorite overall. So many of these bands have singular records that blow anything the Hives did out of the water(ToTBL, Is this It, Elephant), but the Hives are remarkably consistent.

so the question is what's your favorite out of bands that are either garage rock or post-punk revival?

probably the white stripes, then. certainly the band i've listened to the most out of these bands. honorable mentions to the yeah yeah yeahs and tv on the radio.

agree with the sentiment that these are two very different scenes, something like bloc party is definitely PPR but far from garage rock

voted for tv on the radio since they stand out as pretty clearly the most "interesting" group in that list, but interpol might have the best album of the bunch

mostly a very boring batch of bands though, i have no love for that time period at all
