Do you think an asteroid will hit Earth during YOUR lifetime??

We'll be DEAD anyway if it does hit earth cause it's not for another 200 YEARS!!

Scientists have been watching a huge asteroid named BENNU for awhile now as the good news is that they say this asteroid is still unlikely to hit earth..the bad news is that there is now a slightly GREATER chance of it clobbering earth than previously thought!!..

Scientists say not to be alarmed from that cause the odds are still quite low than Bennu will hit earth in the next CENTURY

David Farnocchia said "We shouldn't be worried too much" who is a scientists with NASA's Centre for Near Earth Object Studies

The odds have risen from 1 in 2700 to 1 in 1750 over the next century or two

They are collecting samples with a spacecraft heading back to earth on a long, roundabout loop from the large, spinning rubbile pile of asteroid considered one of the 2 most hazardous known asteroids in the solar system and is de back in 2023

It will show over the 2 and a half years how scientists can determine whether its orbital path well hit earth in the future

The year 2300 is when everyone alive today will be dead but for the future generation may have some panic..

In the meantime, Bennu will have a close encounter with Earth in 2135

IF Bennu does hit earth, it wouldn't wipe out dinosaur style populations but rather create a crater roughly 10-20 times on earth's surface

Do you think an asteroid will hit earth in YOUR lifetime?

It's bad clickbait to put "Don't Worry" in the title. All the people who were going to click out of fear will no longer do that.

10-20 times what?

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

Maybe it's just gonna hop around a lot and make a bunch of different craters for the fun of it.

Yeah, definitely don't worry. Asteroids have already hit Earth in our lifetimes. Most asteroids are relatively tiny objects that won't do significant harm.

If he had accomplished a single damn thing in the last 15-20 years he might sound a little more credible, but were no closer to his vision today than when he began sharing it.

saw a video related to this recently:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wrc4fHSCpw

in summary:
  • astronomers can't predict an asteroid's path more than 100 years in the future
  • no extinction level asteroids in our lifetime
  • plenty of smaller asteroids that can still cause localized damage
  • there are blind spots and often astronomers don't see asteroids coming literally until 24 hours before impact
  • there is literally no proven method of redirecting asteroids
