I really hope this is the case, because holy shit if it really is taking place in a modern setting.

I think it makes more sense. If you read the casting calls, they're actually pretty accurate to the characters, the details are just wrong.

No I don't, because it wasn't. I loved the Footloose episode. And it's hard to argue against Nightmares and Daydreams being the biggest waste of an episode in the series (still burns me that we got that instead of a Zuko + Toph field trip episode)

I thought The Great Divide or whatever the episode was called was generally considered the worst, to the point where The Ember Island Players even acknowledged it as a complete waste of time.

I won't disagree that the Great Divide is definitely a contender (even though I still like it, mainly for the very end of the episode). But then again, the Ember Island Players also meta-called The Drill episode boring, so they don't know shit.

Toph didn't need a week-long field trip with Zuko because she once had a twenty-minute tea time with Iroh.

This tidbit is interesting: "The casting lists the names under fake names throughout the casting process including Carrie, Sam and Juno." This makes me even more inclined to think that this isn't true to the series and the details are fake to make sure news doesn't leak.

Most importantly is this statement from the showrunner:

He also talks about watching the show with his daughter when it was airing. Maybe that's bullshit, but I am inclined to think this is proof enough that even if the show is garbage, he's not making the dumbass mistake of setting it in modern times.

The Katara looks too light-skinned compared to the original, and the Zuko looks too dark-skinned compared to the original. Otherwise, the likenesses seem surprisingly okay, other than the Katara also being too flat-chested compared to the original. idk, I think she's the only one out of the four that I'm kinda iffy on, so hopefully she's amazing in the role to make up for the likeness issues.

Either way, the casting looks better than the four they picked for the movie.
