TC, youre not wrong. But theres also plenty that dont do those things - they just arent as popular. Go check out Vinland Saga, or Berserk sometime. Youd probably like them. Youd be much better off reading the manga for them, though their anime adaptations, particularly Vinland Sagas, are very solid.

I don't disagree but you also described every Marvel movie lol Nah dude anime is still way more overt than Marvel movies. Take Avengers 1. Hulk saying, "you know what my secret is? I'm always angry" *punch* would be some drawn out inner monologue "This is it....this is the moment I've been WAITING FOR!!! My research, my wife Becky (or w/e) *cut to scene of her giggling in framed picture*, those countless days, countless years, TORMENTED as a beast!! *scenes of Bruce Banner walking around alone, sitting at the cafeteria alone* I never knew who I was...I was a nobody before the experiment. Nobody EVER remembered me. They all think I am a BAKEMONO. I still remember that day *10 min flashback of experiment*... now...Now...NOW IS MY TIME! I CAN FINALLY BE WHO I AM MEANT TO BE!! Do you want to know my secret, Captain? I have held onto this secret for many years, ALL the pain, ALL the torture, ALL the memories. I am finally ready. My secret, Cap....my secret... my secret is that I am always angry, and I cannot be any other way! HULK, SMASH!!" --- itt my post is the best ... Copied to Clipboard!

Im shocked people are saying HxH is something TC would like. On top of that, the pacing is slogged down by them giving you the play by play of every single frame in a fight. And it's a shonen, it's not complicated at all. I came in expecting TC to have basically watched only shonen, and lo and behold, only shonen. If I were to make a few recommendations, Samurai Champloo is absolutely phenomenal. The soundtrack was co-composed by Nujabes who essentially created his own subgenre, Nu-jazz, an ambient blend of hiphop and jazz. The scenarios draw from historical figures and range from hilarious to heartfelt and the action scenes are well choreographed. It's also created by the same team that did Cowboy Bebop, and honestly, I prefer Champloo 1000x over Cowboy Bebop. Then there's Eden of the East. If you were given $10,000,000,000, how would you save your country? This is the premise of the show (adjusted for inflation) where you follow one character, Akira, in his strategy in "saving" Japan. What drew me into the show is how Akira is a conversationalist. Normally, when a protagonist confronts a villain, he'd go on a rant about how he's evil. With Akira, he'd spark a dialogue and address why he doesn't agree with their actions. The premise is an open question so there's no real right or wrong solution, only immoral or unethical methods. So it boils down to a clash of ideals and made the show enjoyable to watch. The only problem I have is that the show got popular enough that the animation team decided to turn the second season into movies which means less overall air time and more glossed over parts. Writing this up, I really want to see a successor series set in the US, there's a lot of potential and opportunities given the political culture, the mental health culture, and all the problems that people are facing, even ignoring the pandemic going on now. Lastly, a recent one was Megalo Box. The series is a spiritual sequel celebration title of the 1960's manga Ashita no Joe. The original was about a delinquent kid named Joe who finds a passion in boxing and devotes his life to it to climb out of poverty. For this anime, it follows some aimless and older ruffian, Joe, who finds his calling in Megalo Boxing, Boxing with an upper exoskeleton for strengthened punches (bear with me here), to pull himself out of poverty. The first season is a by the books climb to the top to make his name in the league. The second season, this is exactly what you're looking for. It takes place a several years after the first season's events where a tragedy occurred in that time span. The tragedy caused friendships to fall apart and it's interesting looking at how these character relationships are explored. The boxing takes a backseat, but it is absolutely relevant, especially as it explores how Joe's feats in the previous season affected and inspired the populace in different ways. And more importantly, there's an ongoing tale of a nomad who had lost everything and a hummingbird who wishes to sing to him. It's a good discussion to piece together how the tale is a metaphor for the characters in the realm of boxing. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

5 seconds into a HxH fight
Ok so I think I have this guy figured out. He has 10 different abilities depending on which finger he pulls. His left index finger makes him jump really high, but he can only use it once every 20 minutes on a full moon. His left middle finger gives him a double jump, but only if he uses his first ability. His middle ring finger lets him immobilize his opponent, but only if it's a Tuesday and he's drank orange juice today. His left pinky finger lets him run really fast, but only if there is a glass of water within 20 feet, but if he farts after pulling this one it nullifies his other abilities....... Take Avengers 1. Bruce Banner is really really smart. How do we know? He has seven PhDs and glasses. It really seems like you either haven't watched Marvel or only watch anime if you really cannot tell the difference between an obligatory smart character and an anime smart character. Bruce Banner is hardly the smart cast character either. He's not the guy people go to with major plot questions, he's not coming up with huge advancements (Stark fits that better), it exists only when the pieces fit. His phds are only brought up as minimal exposition. In an anime, that would be such a core of his character, and he would constantly be bringing up his phds for any intellectual hurdle he comes across. If you do not see it this way, there is no middle ground we can reach. Sherlock Homes smokes a pipe which means he is sophisticated. Having a tell does not make you an anime character lol. --- itt my post is the best ... Copied to Clipboard!

I have seen a few episodes of this. I like the soundtrack and actually listen to Nujabes radio a lot before I knew the series. I remember it being cool but not really grabbing my attention too much or ever feeling invested, which honestly is much better than my impression of other animes. Given that it's episodic (there is an overarching goal they're working towards), it fluctuates a lot in terms of quality. There are some lukewarm episodes here and there and then there are the phenomenal "I can show this to my boomer pops" episodes in between. So I can understand your sentiment. Still, I want emphasize my suggestion to try Megalo Box. Though I am iffy on it because the first season was just something to watch, but you want to watch it to establish character relationships before going into the true gem that is Nomad (season 2). The writing is night and day in terms of the sheer difference in quality. I suppose you can ask around if you absolutely need to watch the first season. And nice that you've already been established with the almighty Nujabes. May he rest in peace. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
