I mean if you're watching F&F movies and expecting some crazy twisted and engaging plot then it's all you

I hate it.

I watched an anthology movie last night with 8 vignettes and only one of them was actually complete enough to tell a cohesive story. It was mindboggling that they thought the other stories would be good... like, just because it's science fiction and horror doesn't mean you can just slack off on creating a world that makes sense.

I think it's okay to have that opinion, but only if the story makes it abundantly clear that those details don't matter.

Like, inconsistency in how exactly hyperdrives work in Star Wars is fine because they only exist to serve the utilitarian purpose of getting characters from point A to point B, but it's not fine in Star Trek because that series makes the science behind the technology relevant.

It certainly doesn't mean the writing isn't lazy, but there's also such a thing as being overly critical or nitpicking.

Never really thought about it. People are compiled to write crap, so it goes.

It depends on the series. It mostly needs
To make sense in-universe rather then make actual sense.

I think it's a fair defense, but with the caveat that sometimes it's kind of subjective as to which works are "supposed" to make sense or have some sense of reality to them.

Depends on the kind of story, and what about it is being criticized.

The writing just has to make sense within the context of the world the story takes place in.

Contradicting your own established rules IS bad, though

Like no, some shit needs to make sense

Yup, without any sort of rules there are no stakes when the movie can just pull anything out of its ass to solve a problem

It's a really stupid argument people use when they don't understand internal consistency. A work can have whatever unrealistic crazy stuff it wants as long as it doesn't violate the rules within that work.
