Governments everywhere pass legislation that affect the spectrum of investments every day.

You chose to be a leech and use your excess capital to extort a most crucial need for profit. You wrongly assumed the govt would never stop that gravy train, because youre an idiot.

Shouldve done something more productive with your capital. If you didnt even have a backup plan you deserve the same fate of the people you are itching to ruthlessly evict in a pandemic.

The average CEman must be dirt poor and living in their parent' basement. That's my takeaway from all these landlord topics.

Who the hell still has parents who are alive?

landlords do not provide a good or a service. they own a building and charge money, which prevents people from living in it.
Shelter is a good. Maintenance is a service. For the agreed upon rent.

landlords do not provide the building: construction workers did that. landlords own the building and charge people money to live in it; actively preventing access to the building.

landlords also do not provide maintenance: electricians and plumbers and the like do that. some landlords coordinate such maintenance themselves, but they frequently have a property manager to do it for them; meaning that even that small amount of work is not an inherent part of the position of the landlord.

of course people who actually build the building, maintain the building, and manage the maintenance should be compensated. but none of those are inherent to the position of the landlord. the money a landlord makes is contingent only on owning the building; not on actually doing anything
