Bane was so edgelord SUPAR CEREAL in the comics and 2012 flick, the writers probably wanted to goof on that in the show. I like it. And Todd really is a prick. Then he was defeated and everything was resolved. Except now the character is popular and everyone is asking for more, but like where do you go from there. Dude already broke the Bat. He is never topping that. And so writers just kinda flounder with him. He gets used in a whole mess of inconsistent ways and the character ultimately just waste away. Thankfully, Bane got added to the Secret Six in the mid-2000s and the character finally got the shot in the arm he needed by taking him away from Batman. Modern Bane is pretty great now.
