The thing is the damage is already done, there's beef between my sisters and parents because they feel like my parents always reward me at their expense, and this decision of my dad's reinforces that.

Obviously this is severely a first world problem. It just stresses me out a lot to think of my family situation right now.

Clearly theyre trying to teach your sister a lesson. A lot of people wouldnt understand this if theyre raised in a coddled family. I come from an Eastern European family, it is every bit the stereotype you hear. But you can be damn sure we do not fuck around. We do not make stupid choices, we are stern, serious, and incredibly successful people that put work ethic and intelligence ahead of irrational emotion and indulgence. Discipline is second nature.

What kind of children do you want to raise? Making the right choice is always the harder choice that may seem unfair, but is a necessary evil to produce an offspring that stops making mistakes in life.

Dont get me started on how many people I know that come from wealthy families and made it nowhere in life. Teen pregnancy, no college, no successful business, in between jobs, multiple kids with multiple men, always asking to borrow money from parents and friends, etc.

I survived a war, came to the USA as a refugee, earned a scholarship halfway through university by never giving up and working my ass off in my sport, later became the President of my University, Track team, and am a scientist now. Quit cuddling these fucking kids.

The crash wasn't her fault. She was 0% at fault.

She has to bring her kid to daycare and also attend college part time, and on top of that my mom uses the same car my sister is now using to drive to town and back to do non profit meetings all the time. We live in the country so it's like a 15 or 20 minute drive to town.

What kind of car

And how pissed would you parents be if you gave it to your sister?

That makes absolutely no sense.. My entire post above was projected off the idea that they were trying to teach her a lesson. If she didnt recklessly drive or drive drunk or make any stupid choices, what are they trying to teach her by buying you a car? Thats weird to be honest. The timing is weird I mean. Maybe they couldve waited to get you a car so the sister doesnt feel neglected if she needs it more.

But then again my parents (single mom) never bought me any cars. So, lets be realistic on what kind of parenting gets you furthest in life. You should earn everything in life and not expect help or gifts from anyone but your own achievement.

I dont think they're trying to teach her anything, they'd just rather give me something than her.

That almost seems like they hate her, thats really sad :/ If I was in a gift giving mood and I was a parent, I would have bought your sister the car since shes currently carless. I dont see why I would choose to give you the car when my other child just got her car wrecked by some crazy asshole.

Also, your dad probably thinks the insurance will handle it! If its not her fault, shell get reimbursed for the entire car. Thats why he gave you the new one. Your sister will get hers as well from insurance, dont worry :)

I dont know how I missed that part lmao. Duh, shell be fine bro. Thats what insurance is for when youre at no fault. Your dad already thought this through.

It's true that they're still working through the insurance stuff. The boomer from Florida who hit her tried to argue that she was 20% at fault because she had a flashing yellow (meaning caution), while he had a flashing red (which means stop. Also there is a sign posted at his stop that says in huge text ONCOMING TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP). They also tried some Phoenix Wright shit that there weren't skid marks from her tires therefore she must not have slowed down (however a witness at the scene made it clear she did). It made my dad livid, if it hadn't been over the phone he might have attacked the guy.

Fuck that guy who was at fault. Hes just another soft asshole who wants handouts and doesnt want to be accountable for his actions. Always wants more money and thinks its never his fault. People like this unfortunately compromise most of this country, only care about themselves and no one else. Just look at our Political system, most people are super left or super right. Both are selfish, money motivated, and filled with a lack of care for anything other than their own interests. The same as the posters above attempting to make fun of my posts because they were raised in a soft family and dont understand proper, disciplined parenting that actually raises strict young men and women that conquer the world. All they know is WTF OMGGGZZZ when they see a human being who is actually worth something more other than sitting on a sofa on YouTube all day.

Want to confirm though, did your parents buy the car for your sister (which she crashed) and now bought you one since you are going to college.

If this is the case, you should definitely get the car.

If they bought her a car and buy you one now, it's only fair. She don't get to have 2 cars first just because she was involved in a car crash.

Nobody earns everything in life or does anything without help. Right now, it requires hundreds of thousands of people daily working together for you to live the lifestyle that you do.

(Unless youre a survivalist type who lives in the woods eating berries and squirrels and you invented a computer from scratch using nothing but raw materials found in the forest, and also your own form of internet with the ability to intersperse with the one the rest of us are using. My mistake if thats the case.)

Youre overthinking it buddy. Its just money. Those who have to purchase everything without help tend to be the hardest working because they dont understand what a shortcut it. It starts with small things like a phone bill being your responsibility.
