I couldn't decide if I wanted this OP to be for Girls Frontline (to celebrate GFL getting an anime adaptation) or Konosuba (to celebrate its gacha game launching soon), but then I found this gif in my folder, so I said "fuck it let's go with both" and here we are.

Anyways, this topic is for discussion of all the various games where you put in your time and money effort in hopes of recruiting the hero or waifu of your dreams... yes, welcome to the wonderful world of gacha games! FGO summer destroyed me again.

400 SQ to get Lambda the other day, and another 400 SQ to get Merlin just now. That's $400 total in the hole.

Thankfully there's nothing left to whale for this year in FGO, except for Space Ishtar. But fuck that.

Welp I got swimsuit Hina. I never like swimsuit versions of characters, but given that she's my only Hina, I'm using her. And she's still really good lol

Forest Spire F43 conquered now too, with no A3s on the team to boot. Uriah was a big MVP, and Hiiro is strong, Areia obviously the best big monster DPS in Forest still, though Hiiro is pretty close. She makes up for it in a pretty bitchin' active though. That active is so powerful

Now only Lightning F43 to clear and I'll never have to deal with this shit boss ever again until they appear in the story or on another Spire floor. Not too hopeful about Lightning though... Unless I pull Gronru or Irridon in the near future

Not sure there's much else on the horizon I'm looking forward to aside from that Street Fighter one. Hell, the newest addition here (Azur Lane) was an already long-established title, and I'm still figuring out stuff about it after my initial stumbling around for the last event.

Like, does a ship's faction matter when forming a fleet or what gear you give them? For that matter, I'm not sure what half of these acronyms on gear even mean, or what ships should be using what in general. I'm a pleb and just handed out Air Radars and Repair Toolkits because "anti-air" seemed important with that whole "airspace control" mechanic and self-heals are useful in every other mobile game I've played so far.

And weapons, always with one green arrow and one red arrow so I'm never quite sure if I'm giving them something better unless it's a higher quality version of something they started with.

For the most part faction only matters if their skills use it. Like some ships will buff others of their faction or self-buff if there are x number of their faction and a very few have a different or more powerful attack if equipped with gear from their faction.

For now you can equip your ships with whatever you have available. I didnt really start optimizing my gear or fleet make up until World 9. I just stuck whatever purple or gold gear I had (and of course blue and grey before I had those). Back when I started I found the gear stats very overwhelming. Even now I pretty much just go by gear tier lists online and let other people figure out the formulas. I mostly use https://slaimuda.github.io/ectl/ as it does a pretty good job of breaking down the gear for each ship. You wont have access to a lot of the specific gear for quite awhile, but lower tier versions work fine for quite awhile. Same with the ship tier list itself. I still use some tier 2 and 3 ships and even a tier 4 because I havent got around to maxing out better ones.

Arknights had two major problems for me.

Extremely long cutscenes. 20-30 mins per scene on auto for a game WITHOUT voice acting in said cutscenes is ridiculous. And the story usually isnt even all that great to begin with. Priconne has similarly long scenes (after year 1 or 2) but with voice acting and generally entertaining events.

Trial and error gameplay. This was the case with Millennium War Aigis too, and while the general lack of penalty for retrying is a point in Arknights favor, the later maps typically devolve into some form of:
-you must memorize the path of every enemy you are unable to kill in ~2 seconds
-you must find a working loop with blockades

Those two alone arent necessarily dealbreakers, but when combined with:
-bosses with extremely annoying gimmicks (Rat King plz die)
-spots you should logically be able to deploy units/blocks on, but cant, because fuck you

They become an exercise in frustration. At that point its a case of retry this map for an hour until you perfect your strategy or just look up a guide, and I hate having to make that compromise.

Part of why I enjoyed Aigis (before powercreep got too out of control) was that I felt like I could use even my niche units with more freedom than in Arknights.

alright thanks guys, the game seems fresh to me which is why i like it for now, i've played enough gacha games to know how frustrating things could be :D

also, it's my first week, how long do banners change? and should i be rushing the story or max my team's level?

Yeah, the cutscenes of Arknights can get very arduous to get through at times as often feels like they are saying things to say things, rather than push the story. I often just skip them at this point tbh, then come back later when I have time and need something to read.

As for the mechanics, that all seems basic tower defence that's gone past the very basic level. Arknights you definitely can use the lower level units though and are plenty of guides showing off not using the top units in all the content. Often just a matter of knowing where to place what and not just throwing wherever you want. Definitely not a side game though due to that, as even using guides it can take a fair bit of time to get through event stages.

Banners tend to stay for 2 weeksish or so? Often rerunning older units as the main one as well. Probably want to do a bit of both pushing story and character level. Getting everyone to Elite 1 level 30ish should see you able to go very far. You also want to get one of yours to Elite 2 as then means you can use the tier 3 skills of friends you borrow (I recommend Myrtle for first one, she's 4* so easy to get and cheap to do so as a result. She's utterly fantastic at printing DP for you to use if you get her skill 1 up to m3 (unlocked when you get to e2) so can see use everywhere when you need it.

But yeah what Eab said about Arknights is spot on. I hate that for some stages you absolutely NEED to know stuff about it ahead of time, and the really gimmicky stuff is a pain in the ass. I dont really mind the long cutscenes since I just skip them lol. Except the recruitment oneswhy the fuck havent they made those skippable yet??? At this point I TRY to get Melantha solely because her quote is the shortest <_<

When I pressed and held the button to shoot, my vanguard moved straight forward and I couldnt control them. I had to just let go of the shot. I thought maybe the game was reading the aim button as a direction so it was moving me that way, but when I tried on my daily 3-4 hard mode runs it worked fine all 3 times :<

Also, speaking of PriConne, they added a new equipment slot with chapter 15, so Rank 10-5 is the current maximum. Here's the new chart for determining which rank your characters should be at for whatever you want to use them at.

There are still a decent amount of characters that should be kept at 9-6 (and Shinobu's optimal rank is still 8-6. god the rank system in this game is fucking stupid sometimes) but most of them are better just getting to max rank as soon as possible.

Oh snap so I was reading what was going on in the Arknights story and apparently my dream may come true... *BEEEEEG ARKNIGHTS SPOILERS*

So since Rhodes Island has Talulah in their custody, I'm guessing that they're gonna go with the standard villain-turned-hero trope, especially since A) she and Ch'en were close as kids and B) Talulah was remorseful and gave the key to stop Chernobog instead of destroying it. Plus they look so adorable together lol. So it would be either her or Amiya convincing her that they're all fighting for the Infected. Which would mean that we could get playable Talulah :3

On August 17th 12:00 JST, a server wide raid battle with Rage Legion will begin.
This raid battle will simulate the developments in Main Story Arc 2 Chapter 9.
Reading this chapter is necessary to participate in this event, so make use of the main story unlock feature for those who haven't reached there yet.
For those who have participated in the Kaiser Raid, this will be familiar.

The main boss will be Zane, with Azold, Misora, Ranpha and Kariza as subbosses.
Azold, Misora, Ranpha and Kariza will be combined coop raids for all the players and will each have a massive server wide shared hp pool.
Fighting them consumes attempt numbers dedicated to this event, which generate with time.
Each time you deplete their hp by a certain amount, you will gain rewards.
Once Azold, Misora, Ranpha and Kariza's hp have been reduced to zero, the raid will be considered complete, and you will no longer be able to fight them.

Once the subbosses have been defeated, the final battle with Zane will unlock.
Unlike the other four, Zane is an individual battle, and each player will have to defeat him on their own.

Unlike the Kaiser raid, all characters will be useable in all battles.
However, using "story accurate" characters who fought the specific Rage Legion member in the Main Story will confer an "Advanced Effect".
Using the right characters against the right boss will give them an extra powerup in the battle.
In the current Main Story chapters, different fights are taken place all over Landosol, with different guilds fighting different Rage Legion members.
Thus, characters will gain a bonus if they fight the same boss that they fought in the actual story.
This applies to all alts of a character.

Okay Im beginning to see a big flaw in Blue Archive the huge lack of stamina. Normal stages cost 10, and hard cost 20. Im level 22 and my cap is 102. So unless it skyrockets, I wont be able to play much :<

Theres a cafe that slowly generates money and stamina, but theres a heavy emphasis on slowly.

I think they're pointing to a Beth betrayal of the invaders. Also video tape #10 suggests one of the heroes is gonna die. Not sure who yet. Maybe Craig? He seems like the kind of guy who would sacrifice himself.

Honestly, I can't really remember the last time where a gacha with a modest population is basically universally happy about a game. It doesn't insult your intelligence, properly rewards minnows, has systems that reward dupes but not so excessively that you need them for any of the content, really. There are insanely powerful 4*s that don't need nearly as much luck or investment etc.

It's also a good sign when the subreddit is more gameplay discussion than fan arts.

Also the events are super high quality, the story was quite quaint with very likeable characters. The devs are also really responsive with good updates to improve playing experience.

There are just a lot to like about the game. If you don't want to be disappointed and play a good RPG, highly recommend this. The only tip is that if you do reroll, make sure to prioritize converter 6*s that have 2 turn cooldown preemptive. Any element will do because they're all usable and can beat the same level of content atm.

Going in blind to world 13 in GT I actually managed to save all the demons including the 1-chance only demons.

Well not one I didn't like the suspicious guy I had a feeling he was gonna rat us out to the imposter knight so I told him to get lost.

Had a surprisingly easy time with the first two, though that may just be a testament to how OP Summer Lulu team is.

Haven't done the third stage yet, but it's a fight against the twins and asks for a single attacker, so that'll break up the offensive healer team a bit.

I feel really bad now since I rerolled nearly 50 times, but I'm gonna have to drop Blue Archive. I'm getting shit pulls, there's way too little stamina, and the language barrier is pretty problematic :<

But I've started doing the story in Guardian Tales again :3

GT story is worth the occasional struggle. I don't think there's a competition for how good it is overall in the gacha market. But it is very lengthy, so it's generally recommended you do a bit by bit upon release so you don't get overwhelmed. I think the biggest problem for me is that I'm not always in the mood

What's your team look like? I don't have Daphne (who I've heard takes the team from good to ridiculous) so I've just been using Iris for an attacker along with both Lulus, Aiko, and Salucia. I've been debating whether to raise up one of the lower rarity healers/supporters like Fiora to use instead of Iris.

I have Noel along with Daphne, though Noel is probably overkill. Daphne is pretty necessary for the second challenge quest, since the enemies hit pretty hard without shields.

On the other hand, the twins in the third challenge quest ignore shields, so it's a massive stat check that I probably can't expect to 3*.

Mfing Arisa stage in PriConne. I tried for a solid half hour yesterday and the attempt I got 3 stars on I demolished it by doing... literally nothing different than I'd been doing before.
