Final Fantasy X was clearly weaker in 2015 than in 2009/10. And Majora's Mask largely legitimized its GOTD performance in 2015.

I think there was too much 4-way shenanigans to know how much MMX was affected in that match. Regardless, I'd argue that Link's Awakening is legit (even if I wouldn't take it over FFX). I know people like to point that it's a Gameboy game, but it's THE Zelda Gameboy game and it's not like handheld games can't have strength, look at Pokemon RBY, GSC and Tetris.

With that said, a 128-game 90s bracket will have a boring first round because we have so many top end games destroying the fodder games. As for the question on whether the weakest 90s games will be weaker than the weakest 00s or 10s, I think they may.

The 00s had a pretty good roster, like besides Guitar Hero II and WWF No Mercy (which was the guru nomination), I don't think Ocarina of Time would break 90% against any other game in that bracket in 2010 (outside of SFF). The 10s were quite a bit weaker where OoT would probably break 90% against over two dozen entrants.

Off the top of my head, I'd expect Genesis games like Gunstar Heroes and Phantasy Star IV making the bracket which could be weaker than everything in GotD2. PC games outside of a select few are not exactly "GameFAQs approved" but will likely have a spot in the contest. Even among the successful consoles there will be weak entrants as we'll be pushing for 25-30 games for the SNES and Playstation and possibly 15-20 for the Nintendo 64.

I voted TTYD, but Im not positive any of these would be my favorite. I wonder if 64 will be hurt any by the re-release. Probably not, but goddamn that game aged incredibly poorly camera/control wise and I just didnt have much fun with it on the Switch. Was a favorite of mine on the N64 so its sad it doesnt hold up to me

Maybe Melee still beats Wind Waker 1-on-1 and I'm not sure Twilight Princess has what it takes but I don't envy Melee's chances against Majora's Mask or Super Metroid.

That was a TP that also got 48% on Brawl, so it was one of the strongest games in that contest. It's dipped since then, but TP was strong out of the gate.

That being said, I do think Melee gets a little weaker with every Smash release. It's certainly had more staying power than Brawl or Smash 4, but I imagine there's a sizable portion of the gamer base who leaves Melee with each new Smash and never comes back.

I'm not buying that anyone had it as their favorite gamecube game before (of the selection) and now "realized" it sucks. It's basically constant.

I was surprised Wind Waker was winning, but now that I think about it it makes sense. It's gotten rereleases, unlike Melee, and has more staying power since each Smash games becomes obsolete thanks to the next one. Melee's immune to that a bit, but nobody's going to go back to it the way they do with a game like Wind Waker.

It's not like Wind Waker was ever far behind Melee. GotD suggests indirectly it would be a 55/45 match, possibly closer while in 2015, given its performance against FFVI, Wind Waker may have already been stronger at that point.

In these types of heavy SFF/LFF polls it's difficult to get a proper hierarchy.

I still think Melee would handle Wind Waker straight up in a contest setting if it came down to it. We've seen before that PotD results don't line up with contest performance (FFVI vs. FFVII)

Just to ask something, does Super Mario World doing better against Final Fantasy VIII than 64 did against FFT in 2015 indicate World > 64?

It would indicate Mario World benefited from the Undertale rally more than FFVIII did.

I'd still take Super Mario 64 over World, but that's just a preference pick at this point given we haven't seen World in a non-rallied match in 12 years.
