If anything I need a bigger raise they're trying to have people work more hours since they know you're at home.

They're already saving billions maybe even trillions from not having to lease or buy buildings. This is just a con they're trying to play on the workers. Only naive people will fall for this

being real

office work is, for most people, not highly productive on a daily basis. it's understandable because when you need to work, you need to work hard--crises call for >8h days where there is no time being wasted. employers know it--and accept it, because they need the workers for those crises.

having to sit in an office and do stupid things to pass the time instead of being able to be with your family is really annoying. being able to get through those 12h days with my dog who lost a leg to cancer curled up with me is a lot more pleasant, as well.

it's not like workers are unwilling to go in when they genuinely need to, they just really hate the idea of having to go in. office workers have basically no use for their supervisors, they collaborate over email/direct message/teleconference just fine.

none of this applies for direct customer-facing work, retail, assembly, etc, but for any information economy work, it absolutely does.

Did Duncan accidentally reveal that it's an alt account itt??
He has an associates that took him forever to get because he kept failing classes. Why he's started lying and claiming he got a BA now, I don't know (probably because he'd talk about having a college degree and people would point out it was an AA) @Duncanwii @Will_VIIII

I personally hate working from home. I need a clear work/life divide.

With that, I manage a bunch of people that do wfh and more power to them. It's not hard to measure productivity, allocate resources, solve problems and set goals even when you don't physically see the office staff. If you can't, then you probably weren't actually doing anything as a manager in the first place.

I personally don't want to work remotely 100% of the time because it's hard for me to separate my personal life with work life when both are happening in the same place. So it's first world problem to rival the best first world problems, but these last 1.5 years has been a personal hell for me even though it's been by far my best period financially. I'd be up for going in to the office 3 (MWF) or 4 (M-Th) but no less than that.

Main reason I didn't want to be a college professor and instead went for an office job is because I wanted a super clear separation of work and personal life after going through grad school, where I couldn't enjoy a single vacation or break without thinking about paper deadlines or work to catch up on.

I'd agree to a 5% pay cut for the above teleworking to be an option once everything returns to normal

Also Duncan, plug in hybrid cars charge way slower and have way less range than full electric cars. So of course it's going to seem like a waste if you're constantly using a plug in like a full electric when the point is for it to be a hybrid to get better fuel economy compared to an ICE car. It's not really a valid complaint, the car is being used in the wrong way if charging it overnight is such a hassle. If it was a full electric, you'd get 300+ miles of range and it would charge from 0-100% in like 2 or 3 hours.
