That is a common opinion on the story! I've never heard SS referred to as the best in anything, except maybe disappointment, but even then it usually loses to TP. A disappointment at disappointing. Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda (I have very mixed opinions on the HD version though, mainly due to them butchering the motion controls) and as someone who's heard an absurd amount of bashing on the game, even the haters admit it has a great story.

I've seen a few people say SS has the best dungeons and the best combat. It definitely has the best final boss.

If it's not the highest rated Zelda story, I will be very disappointed in Board 8! I never argue that SS is the best Zelda, just my favorite, and I very much get the critiques. Yeah SS is definitely not the best. I find a lot of the greater lore reveals kind of lame. But it does have the best iterations of several characters and Groose. I think the cutscenes themselves succeed even more where TP's doesn't. But there's also Fi and I don't really like the new critters like the mole people.

Skyward Sword's story was fine, but I'm not inclined to put it in my top 3 for the series. Thought it was generally excellent otherwise though. The decision to make the overworld basically one giant dungeon is A+++.
