The Olympics is a giant commercial like almost everything else on TV.

You would think American's would realise what is shown on their tv's are commercials, with the occasional show peppered in, by now.

I was annoyed they kept going to commercials during that exciting water polo match between US and Hungary. Like they come resume and suddenly I miss out on 3 goals made WTF

Sports are really the only thing I watch live now. Live TV is completely unwatchable. Every once in a blue moon when I'm at a hotel or wherever and live TV is going, it just reminds me how much better streaming is, regardless of how many platforms there end up being.

Sped up programming, scenes cut, commercials playing at the loudest possible decibel volume allowed by the FCC... it's fucking horrible.

Americans love sports with either commercials. College and NFL football are 60 minutes of game play interrupting two to four hours of commercials and people cant get enough of it.

You mean American football or soccer? The latter is definitely boring. 90 minutes of kicking a ball around an oversized field and hoping it somehow ends up in an oversized net. Yet scores often end up 1-0....

Just because they have done it before doesnt make it right. It should be like soccer where they dont air commercials until the half. If the athletes at an event are still in action there shouldnt be commerical break.

If they want to air commercial breaks maybe air sports where the athletes take breaks or it is finished within 10 minutes. NBC has Peacock now they can put the longer events uninterrupted on that.

NBC is pure garbage. I'm so glad they lost the NHL to ESPN starting next year. The final straw for me was when the St Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup, their first ever, and NBC decided to fade to black right into the players hoisting the Cup moments. Absolute disgrace and disrespect.

I have a VPN and have been alternating between Canada's CBC or UK's BBC for all Olympic coverage.

Going to the ballpark had a picnic-y feel to it. Sitting back, eating popcorn/hot dogs/cotton candy/whatever, chatting with the people around you, etc. Maybe there's a no-hitter or a perfect game on the line.

If you have a VPN, connect to Canada for CBC or UK for BBC coverage. I have both websites bookmarked under their Olympics video tab. You can watch live or full replays, and because you have the specific sports page bookmarked, you really don't see the news or results articles unless you click elsewhere. So most of it has remained spoiler free for me.

That pretty much happens with all Olympics. Even the Miracle on Ice happened earlier in the day, and was going to be aired in prime time, but everyone already knew by the time it aired.

Yeah. I wish ESPN/Disney got the Olympics. It would have been on ABC, ESPN, Hulu, and Disney Plus. Which are more popular than the combination NBC has. No one gives a fuck about Peacock.

Commercials for big events like this should consist of like a banner ad that is there the whole time. Not standard commercials that interrupt what is being shown.
