When I was in 5th or 6th grade (call it like 92/93) there was a soccer car wash to raise money for some tournaments we wanted to play in.

This kid Danny's mom wanted her car washed, so we washed it properly, then with the soap bubbles he drew a smiley face on the windshield. She paid and then went to get in her car and saw the bubbles. She got back out and came back in a storm yelling at Danny "Did you draw on the windshield? DID YOU DRAW ON THE WINDSHIELD" And then went on a flurry of punches and slaps (front hand and back hand while wearing rings). This was in front of probably 10 other adults, none said a word. He just stood there taking it apologizing. The coach sent us to the DQ to get ice cream after that and Danny, not visibly upset just kept saying "I can't wait until she dies."

I told my parents after and they were basically "we don't interfere with other parents raising their kids."

As much as everyone trying to be in other people's business, I'd like to think something like this wouldn't happen today. But maybe I'm naive.

One time a kid in my 5th grade class, who was known as a tough mean kid, came to school crying and completely black and blue

His dad had beat the shit out of him and locked in the closet the entire weekend

I never saw him again after that day

Was in a store a while back and heard a dad yelling at his 8-9 year old son. The way that kid flinched as soon as the dude raised his voice was incredibly telling. As someone that lived that life I quickly felt my anger growing. The mom intervened, probably reminding her asshole husband that they were in public.

I wasn't a kid, but at the busstop, I once saw a mom hit her toddler son in the face several times with her fist after he was acting up. I say hit because it wasn't hard enough for a full-on punch, but it was close to it.

I was at my ex-girlfriend's house when I was like 19 or 20 and her dad slapped her younger sister at the dinner table. that was awkward as shit.
