Lala Kent is calling out Demi Lovato.

The 30-year-old Vanderpump Rulesstar made an appearance on the Behind the Velvet Rope on Monday (July 19).

Lala, who decided to get sober in 2018, spoke about Demis decision to become California sober.

I dont like to judge, but I actually think that thats super offensive, she said.

You know, there are people out there who work their ass off to never take themselves out of reality and to never place themselves in an altered state. You know, they dont even, when they have a cold, take DayQuil or NyQuil. So to say that youre, like, California sober or this type of sober is extremely offensive, I think, she continued.

To me, Ive been in rooms with men and women who have given up everything just to not pick up [substances]. So sober to me means that you are not taking yourself out of reality, she added, saying it was not a real thing.
Youre not sober. If you are drinking or youre smoking weed, youre not sober.

But theres nothing wrong with having a fun term for people who can smoke weed without triggering their problematic addiction

Seems like a weird thing to get offended by, and to me sober can just mean that you abstain from alcohol, but after that whole yogurt shop thing I am interested to see how Demi weasels out of this one.

I find the term "born-again virgins" to be super offensive. You have people working their ass off to be anti-social, avoid fun parties, and even join incels to never have sex. But you think you kan just slut it up and still grab the virgin moniker because some priest dunked your ass in a kiddy pool? This type of thinking is extremely offensive. If you've had sex, you're not a virgin.

My friend is in AA and regularly runs into people who take the term sober very seriously. Even taking certain prescribed medications can rule you out of being truly sober in some people's eyes.

At the end of the day this lady is just trying to gatekeep sobriety, and if Demi Lovato has managed to overcome the substances they had a problem with while still enjoying the ones they didn't have a problem with, then I would consider that a good thing

I don't necessarily agree with Lala Kent, but I do actually find Demi Lovato's handling of her addiction to be annoying. I've lost a cousin, a couple friends, and many peers to heroin and I've known many addicts who've changed their lives around. But it's like Demi Lovato makes it part of her persona. You'd think she'd want to be more private about it. It's almost offensive.

Idk, every person I've ever known who went through recovery was pretty open about it, and their status as a recovering addict/alcoholic is something they wear on their sleeve

but to each their own. My friend during college hit hard times with meth and he's been sober for years and will enjoy a beer with me. I dont think its always all or nothing.
