I can 'appreciate' Tool a bit now, but they've never hardcore stuck with me. I love a lot of bands that inspired them, that they inspired, and bands they toured with. But if I want prog I love all eras of King Crimson, and the 2000-2003 era is extreme. I'm not a big fan of his singing and would rather hear someone like Mike Patton or Devin Townsend. Slow music, I'd prefer Melvins, Harvey Milk or Om...I get why people love them though, they're unique.

Tool's whole catalog is pretty boring imo

I always liked A Perfect Circle more, not that they're necessarily comparable. I heard their last album was shit too. I only listened to one song on it and it was pretty bad. But I'll take Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step over Tool any day.

I should give it another listen but yeah, it was unmemorable for me. I haven't really listened to the old stuff a lot recently either though, maybe I'm just not really into them anymore. Also, I know it's a trite complaint, but all their albums are like 20 minutes too long
