Greetings you cold-hearted bastards, pro-gamers, git-gud enthusiasts!

In my attempts to beat the SoulsBorne games all in 2021, I present to you my playthru topic of BLOODBORNE!

I say my first serious playthru because I do have 1 singular trophy in it from a previous... I assume rental I did of the game at once point? That trophy, BTW, is Defeat the Cleric Beast!

I do remember the game is far more offensively oriented than Dark Souls. I typically played Demons Souls, and DS1-2 as a Sword and Board kind of player, though I would 2-Hand some weapons if I felt I had the dodging down pretty strongly. I know that it's a little faster typically than DS1 and 2. I remember it having a cool atmosphere but otherwise, not much.

I'm playing on a PS5 with the free version they give me for owning a PS5. No DLC, though if it happens to be cheap right now I could see myself getting it. If I decided to get it, can I just download and install it later or will I need to restart my playthru? Oooof, the DLC is 27 bucks. Probably not gonna get it.

Anyways, regardless if I have some saved data from way back when I will start a new playthru and let you know how it is going! Thanks for coming along for the ride! Each of these topics has had a lot of people following my progress, giving me some little pointers here and there, and just enthusiasts coming by to wish me luck and watch me succeed and fail!

I beat Dark Souls 2 June 21st, so I'm almost a month out of practice with SoulsBorne. But I've heard going immediately from DS to Bloodborne is actually tougher than kinda taking a break.

Focus on leveling up Health Exclusively

Theres basically no reason to touch the other stats early on for your first time in Yharnam. Im serious.

I dont even think theres a weapon that warrants putting points into strength & dex

Pumping Vit early will definitely serve you well, especially considering that healing is percentage-based, so it wont even make your heals less effective. Weapons are more condensed and theres a bit more to each ones moveset than in Souls. Try them all if you can! Theyre all fun and different.

You can beat the entire game with the Saw Cleaver

I most likely will do a strength build as well... I've heard a lot about the "Kirkhammer" and I love the idea of smashing the faces of my enemies with a hammer.

Once you softcap Vit you can grab some nice Gems from the Lab. & create a niche build (Str, Blt, Arc, etc)

Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time and the only game I ever bothered to platinum.

Don't player it like the other souls game - be aggressive. Offense is the best defense and it's almost always worth it to go in for another hit while you'll most likely be punished if you play to defensively.

Get the DLC. It's worth it. Has some of the best weapons and boss battles and further elaborates on the story and lore.

Also use you're consumables like fire/bolt paper, oil, molotovs, etc. The game really wants you to play like a hunter and in bloodborne hunters use tools.

I still think its pretty amazing at how large a chunk of the people that played never got passed papa guac.

Stats dont work like they did in Souls (and even then, in Souls.... you can be better off putting points into stamina) ~ however, in Bloodborne, stamina gains are pathetic overall. You start with almost egregiously low health. And putting points into Str wont make Str weapons do much more damage at all...... without the right Blood Gems. Therefore, I am saving your life by telling you EVERYTHING needs to go into Vit. But as another poster indicated.....

It is unnatural advice. It will make you op. Its a terrible secret. And you should experiment.

Ludwigs Sword. The Kirkhammett. BOM. These are great. Anyway.

Pick the Blunderbuss. You can get a better pistol later. Shoot point blank with the Blunderbuss as an human-sized enemy is in mid-attack, and you will stun them. You can then press R1 to disembowel them for massive damage. Bigger enemies you need to attack from the back. Bloodborne has a more complex backstab system. Bosses that are colossal you need to break their limbs. Enjoy!

I got it down within about an 8th of its health. Grabbed the Hunters Axe and the Blunderbuss as my starting weapons.

The beasts are straight out of Tomb of the Giants

Listen to what were saying, but also don't cause it's a fresh playthrough.

Health is important, but, like other From Games, everything is possible at base level. Just do what feels right.

All three starting weapons are fun, and the shotgun is cool but the pistol is my preferred parry method.

Its just... if hes gonna basically televise it. May as well aktually help the lad be optimal.

Also, I know you said you weren't buying the DLC, but it's some of the best content in the FromSoft library bar none. There's more weapons if you wanted to venture in a little early that are some of my favorite in the game, namely the Cutters. Beast, and Pizza.

In fact, I'm so confident you'd like it I'm willing to pitch in $10 for the DLC, should you want it.

And no, getting the DLC doesn't mean starting a new playthrough. It just spawns the item into the Dream.

Axe was my go to. Use it's range to your advantage. Also, it often can clip through objects to cheat.

Plus, you can't even access it until a few bosses in anyway. So, you might as well see if you actually like the game first

You can start the DLC on any file after you get it, even if you made that file before installing the DLC.

The DLC can be accessed after beating 2nd mandatory boss. Very early ~ Maybe youll find something you like.

The timing for parry's with the shotguns feels different from Dark Souls parry timing, which I mean is fine it will just take time to get used to

Youll find its easier with certain enemies. Essentially, parry is the only way to viably fight the larger ManBeast mobs & Shadows of Yharnam.

Did my first little wrap-around. Made my way to a bridge with a couple of those kinda... I dunno, Werewolf looking things? Killed them with fire and made my way back to the Lamp after opening up a shortcut. Huzzah life!

Yeah, standard blood shards are pretty easy to come by, especially if you decide to farm the scourge werewolf things, a lot of enemies drop Blood Stone Shards, even in Central Yharnam

I bought the Yharnam Set from the Bath Messenger. Knowing how these games work now, 2500 Echoes means NOTHING even like, 2 hours in. However, the stat increase NOW is gonna just make it that much easier. Plus I can see my Female Hunter's wonderful hair now.

I loved using the Kirkhammer, it's super satisfying to nail baddies with a fully charged hammer smash.
