Because they had the Death Star plans and it's a matter of time before the empire finds the rebel base. Better question is if Vader's gamble was even close to worth it given they know there is a possibility the rebels could destroy the death star with their new knowledge. I don't think there's any need for spoilers tags for a 50 year old movie most gamers have seen anyways.

The Last Jedi went in a brand new direction and didn't try to just appeal to nostalgia like the other sequels did, its my favourite. Even if it was crucified for it.

Otherwise, A New Hope is the best. Empire really only made everything needlessly convoluted and really leaned into the whole "nothing really matters unless you're a Skywalker" that dominates the rest of the series that I really hate.

Never felt like this to me. Was actually hoping the sequel trilogy would touch more on mechanics of Anakin's conception and the correct interpretation of the prophecy.
