39 in 1989 = born in 1950

But since they never age as the years go on, his date of birth would now be in 1982

No, it's not. Gen X is the kids that were born in the early 80s and finished High school before 2000. They were the X-Kids. Everything had X in it. Xtreme, X-games, ect

He's 39 now but he was early/mid 30s before. The show writers age him and Marge up every now and then

Watch the Hullaballoza episode where he's asking Bart and Lisa what it's like to be Generation X. Seriously, watch it. It's one of the best Simpsons episodes ever (Not as good as 'You Only Move Twice' though, but nothing is!). WATCH IT I SAY!!!!

Edit: Also has one of my favourite lines ever in it - "Pleased to meet you; Billie Corgan, Smashing Pumpkins." "Homer Simpson, smiling politely."

Iirc, it spans 1946 to 1964 or so, so yes the older baby boomers would have been old enough but the younger ones were still in elementary school.

No, I disagree. Even though people don't think it's true, that's how I see it. Tell me why anyone in born in the 70s would be called that? They were kids in the 80s, which was before all the Xtreme stuff started to happen. They were teens during the 90s

I base my thoughts on that your generation was when you were a kid, and not almost an adult. That's why I consider myself Gen X - I was born in 1983, so was both a kid and a teenager during this Xtreme erea known as Gen X

Yeah it is. If you finished high school on or before 2000 you're a Gen X or older.

"Early 80s" is a little misleading though. It's mostly 70s and only the beginning of the 80s.

I just read CE's bible known as Wikipedia and it says born in the late 70s and 1980 is the last year, which I disagree with. But that's kind of what I'm saying, there isn't really any "Real" answer here. I simply don't understand how I can be considered a Millennial when I spend exactly 1 1/2 months as a kid in the 21st Century

The general breakdown is as follows, or somewhere near it:

Baby Boomers: born 1946 to 1964. ...
Generation Jones: born 1955 to 1965. ...
Generation X: born 1965 to 1980. ...
Millennials: born 1981 to 1996. ...
Generation Z: born 1997 or 2010...
Generation Alpha: born 2010 or after.

IMO you just count 18 year increments since the baby boom.

1945-1963 "boomers"

1964-1982 "Gen X"

1983-2001 "millennials"

2002-2020 "zoomers"

2021-2039 ?????

The generation is called "Millennials" because that generation became adults during the turn of the millennium.

Most consider the "turn of the millennium" as the 5 years leading up to 2000 and the 5 years after it, which basically covers most born in the "Millennial" Generation.

Exactly.

No one born in the Mid-Late 80's is considered "Gen-X" just because they were kids when the X-Games came out.

The name "Generation X" comes from a novel by Douglas Coupland, Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture, published in 1991. The first X-Games, and the birth of things being "XTreme" was in 1995.
