Diagnosed at the beginning of the year in my right leg. It hurts like really bad muscle pain, but you can't touch or massage it cause you could dislodge it and have a stroke or pulmonary embolism (to the lungs what a stroke is to the brain).

But, before I knew I had a blood clot, for like a week I was massaging it and it felt REALLY good to massage. Like, there was this perfect point on my leg where I could really reach the pain. Anyway its really good I got checked out and stopped doing that.

But, if there was some way to induce that terrible pain, so I could massage it without risk of death, it would be worth it to do so cause it felt so good.

Can't they do shit like break it up with ultrasonic rays or whatever they do with massive kidney stones to at least make them smaller?

Blood thinners, and they probably saved me cause I went from being basically unable to walk almost at all, to being normal again in about a week. I let it get a lot worse than I should have. I wasnt sure what was causing my limp, I thought I mgiht have injured myself but I couldnt remember. It felt like muscle pain so I was sure that was it. I sat on it for a week with it getting worse and worse every day.

Message is, get checked out.

As far as procedures like that, I think stuff like that might exist but it's more of a last resort thing. It's better if it just dissolves on its own.

This is months ago that it was really bad, the instance I was referring to in OP. Now I only get minor pain periodically. I did go to the ER at the time.

Guys, relax, he's on anticoagulation after being worked up by a medical professional.

So TC, is it Xarelto or Eliquis? If Xarelto, then make sure you take it with a big, fatty meal to maximize the bioavailability of the drug.

Well anticoagulation is one of my specialties as a pharmacist and Eliquis can be taken without regard for food or drink.

I'm on eliquis for the rest of my life. I had a dvt and PE. I'm find now. And I surgery for the underlying cause if them. Still for my safety, they recommended eliquis for the rest of my life.

For your information TC, personally for me it hast taken about two years to fully recover from the dvt in my left leg. I had to have surgery with a vascular specialist though. Ever since then it's feels fine. Before the surgery I had a chronic pain in my hip area and lower back but that's been gone for like 3 months now. Hopefully you get better.

Current guidelines generally call for a duration of 3-6 months of anticoagulation for a provoked DVT/PE (that is, an isolated event). However if someone has had multiple unprovoked DVTs (even while on anticoagulants) then lifelong therapy might be indicated.

My dad has been on anticoagulants for life, so it wouldn't surprise me for that to be the case. I feel probably 90% better, but six months in I still am dealing with the dvt in my leg.

I think what provoked it in this instance was several months of very little physical activity. Last year I went from taking regular walks to having almost no physical activity, and my job moved to my desk at home, which is where I spend my free time already. So there was about 4 - 5 months of no activity.

The thought of taking them for years, and then my body after years becoming acclimated where it really does need them, scares me. I'd rather get off of it as soon as possible. I'm not a medical professional, and I'm going to listen to my doctors or get opinions from other doctors I see, but it just worries me.

Well, the family history is there with your father so you were already at an increased risk of blood clots, which can have a genetic component in their presentation. Your doctors will pay attention to that I'm sure.

Virchow's triad kind of sums up generally how the coagulation cascade triggers on your body, which ultimately forms a thrombus or clot - circulating elements, vessel wall integrity, and venous stasis. That last one can get triggered if you live a sedentary lifestyle as you described above.
