I've already played the original, though, the spoiler tags are for others' benefits only. In the past, you'd have to play on Hard to get a true challenge, but I dunno if that's required now with rebalancing stuff. Eh well. Hard it is.

Damn, already found a glitch. Killed this bandit dude in the forest, then learned a dude had a bounty on him. Went back, can't pick up his daggers because they're unrecoverable near the side of a stream. So much for that!

Finding an enemy that could survive a meteor was like a Saitama "he's still alive after one punch?" Moment for me IMO.

I think there are some Niskarus who can eat a meteor on Hard mode. At least, I remember a few from the 360 days. Used to farm one on a beach in the Dead Kel DLC and I think it survived on occasion.

Niskarus were the most likely to survive yeah. Certain Trolls could survive it too. You know there weren't really a lot of "single dangerous" type enemies in that game now that I think about it. Almost the whole game is just killing lots of little things until you get to a boss.

I started KOA like 2 years ago playing the 360 version with back compat.
I got about 10 or so hours in before falling off it. It just moved kind of slowly and didn't really inspire me tbh.

Yeah, there's a lot of boring fetch quests early on. Once you start getting to the plains or that dwarf town down south, things get a little more enjoyable. It's one forest after another after you leave that first tower, haha.

You can kind of ignore most of the early quests except for Canneroc. You really only need to do Canneroc + the faction quests & the faction quests aren't even in the starting areas. They just start out that way.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do the faction quests, although I'm really only interested in the mage academy one. I'm not gonna respec later or anything, so I might just ignore some of the others, even if they are kinda fun (like the one with the Hierophant). Come to think of it, I think one of the mage guild quests is near Ysa, in that fae town.

It's cool that they kept the Mass Effect stuff in. I'm not gonna bother claiming it (can't put it back and it's not on my current build), but I wonder if they changed anything about it -- descriptions, look, etc.

I don't think I've ever gone through as an assassin. Not big on knives. Sneaking around is good, though, and you can actually occasionally pickpocket NPCs for rare equipment.

That's Canneroc.

You can get multiple houses in the game with stashes but Canneroc is the first one and it's doable essentially as soon as you exit the pit of resurrection.

Yeah, I made for Canneroc immediately. I forget what quest gives me the house, but eh well, I'll just do a few quests here and there to find out. Don't feel like looking anything up (I wrote an FAQ for this game 8+ years ago!).

EDIT: Actually, I might look up what places sell backpacks. Haven't found any yet. Maybe there's one in Gorhart? I'm curious if anyone else remembers the glitch to buy tens or hundreds of backpacks at the risk of messing up the game. Might've been patched out for the rerelease.

The backpack glitch was fixed I think but they made inventory improvements and also fixed a few bugs with unremovable items.

The backpack glitch was buying a backpack from Mineroth? Whatever is called in the last town before endgame. You buy it kill him then reload. Then you still have the backpack then you can keep doing it as long as you want.

I may be missing a step

I hope they increased backpack size overall.

As for improvements, I think they did something with crafting/weapon components. Don't know if anyone remembers the original, but by the lategame, you'd end up with a ridiculous amount of jank that would take forever to sift through (I don't think things stacked properly). If they fixed that, I'm all for it.

The downside to chakrams is the further you throw 'em, the longer you leave yourself open to be flanked. I managed to beat Lady of Windemere, but damn, she did all-out minion summoning, including a thresh. Thankfully, you can just do a fatesplosion and they'll all die with her.

Start over on Very Hard, the game is piss easy even on hard. Not even a git gud kinda thing, if you do any work building your character, which you will because it's a combat focused RPG, you'll roll over everything. Very Hard at least gives some of the hard enemies enough HP to take you out of autopilot. I actually gave up playing a mage on hard on the 360 because it was too boring, every single combat encounter could be handled in a few button presses and I never even got hit.

The game is glitchy as fuck, which is bad but also extremely faithful to the original. >__>

Agarth is a pretty good NPC character, honestly. It's a shame that, outside of him, Alyn Shir and maybe a couple others, they're pretty bland and rarely get good dialogue.

As much as I love meteor nuking, I do kinda miss playing as a blademaster. My mage chick has trouble with crowd control right now, especially teleporting mages, so being able to tank hits (I'm using talismans instead of shields lol) and block damage while slicing up all and sundry'd be nice. Instead, my wimpy character is constantly getting staggered and blasted by homing tornados/fireballs. Sad!

Finished the Scholia Arcana questline with some difficulty. Luckily, the final boss battle lets you have giant planters to eat some of those magic projectiles. Send your faer gorta to do some HP-stealing attacks and maybe it'll all work out okay. The rewards weren't as good as I remembered, though. Skyrim at least gave me some Archmage Robes.

From what I remember, basically the entire game is easy if you have a Reckoning Mode built up. Otherwise a few fights could be difficult, but that was usually due to enemies that scaled in groups. So stuff like the Maid of Windemere fight or some of the Sprite ambushes.

As for playing a spell caster, IIRC you can go pure caster with enough points left over for stealth, which allows Meteor to deal sneak attack damage(though sometimes the pre-crash stones eat up the sneak attack bonus).

Eventually though, through Sagecraft, can have your mana recover faster than you can build up spells. I remember the combat devolving into infinite juggles between Mark of Flame(against 7 targets, maybe 8) and Lightning Storm. That assumes a target is allowed to survive a stealth Meteor. Mages get crazy powerful.

It depends on the sidequests. Without those the areas go by really quickly Also, as a high level caster the combats can be as simple as dropping Meteor on a group of enemies and pressing onward past their corpses.

Yeah, I skipped a ton of lame-ass sidequests, and only did the House of Ballads and Scholia Arcania questlines. Things are pretty easy when you trim that much fat off the experience. Also, I beat the House of Valor/Dead Kel DLC last night. Still have some Gravehal Keep stuff to finish up, though.
