Head of the Chinese Communist Party Xi Jinping gave a speech celebrating the Chinese Communist Party's centennial on July 1. That speech was the subject of a symposium attended by some of China's most prolific film insiders, including Jackie Chan.

Chan took the opportunity to express his admiration of the CCP and a desire to join its ranks. Addressing party members, the Hong Kong action star stated (translated from Mandarin), "I'm jealous that you are CCP members. The CCP is really great." He continued, "The CCP's promises don't take 100 years, they are fulfilled in decades." He then declared, "I want to be a CCP member."

During the 2019 Hong Kong protests, for example, Chan took part in a media campaign named "The Five-starred Red Flag Has 1.4 Billion Flag Guards," aimed at promoting nationalism during the protests in Hong Kong which were believed to incite and encourage separatist sentiments. During a television appearance in China at the time, Chan stated, "I feel the pride of being a Chinese everywhere, the Five-starred Red Flag is respected worldwide." This was followed by what many in Hong Kong interpreted as a warning aimed at the special administrative region: "I also feel that safety, stability and peace are like fresh air. You never know how precious it is until you lose it."

No need for WW3. It's a losing battle for them to assume they can make any more progress spreading authoritarianism. If a WW3 broke out, it would be most of the the Eastern Hemisphere, plus Europe, Japan, India, and most of the Pacific nations against China and North Korea with Russia hopefully just sitting on the sidelines cheering on whoever is winning so they can take new territory in the aftermath.

Even countries that are borderline authoritarian like the Philippines would probably side with USA/NATO because they hate China anyway.

China would also immidiately go bankrupt if they started any war and most the world stopped buying Happy Meal toys from them.

Anyway, it's just a matter of time before the CCP begins a long decline. Their decades of "one child" policy combined with a drastic decrease in fertility rates is going to slowly put their economy into a tailspin.

Almost every rich person in China is a member. It's not easy to become a member (most people aren't) and has become harder, but the upper class can make the connections and afford the costs to get in and being a member provides more connections and opportunities (as well as limited political rights). Jackie might be shilling harder than most, but that's just what you do if you're rich and want to maintain that there. Jack Ma despite being a party member got on Xi's bad side and has been paying the price. There was a time before Xi when it was okay to disagree with leadership within the party, but he has largely eliminated that (along with term limits) and brought back the cult of personality.
