People were mad she crowdfunded a series of videos, saying she stole people's money for "low effort content". Nowadays we have Patreon where content creators bring in thousands of dollars a month to make their specialised niche content, where fans of that content pay their favorite content creators out of pocket, which essentially normalised what Anita Sarkeesian did in the first place. Then the complaint was that she ran away with the money. She produced multiple seasons of the show with the backing that she got. And then people had the gall to piss and moan and complain about the state of the world because Anita Sarkeesian was popular and had influence. So let me get this straight. You turn her into a household name overnight because you don't like what she's doing. You complained about the worth of her content, turning her into a scapegoat for the entire feminist movement, and you lied about how she made money, what she produced and how she spent the money - all of which she was transparent about. You made her name synonymous with "SJW", "leftist", "feminist". And you have the gall to cry about how popular she is, and how much reach she had as a public figure? She wouldn't be a public figure without the hardcore, sustained vitriol she suffered. The people who hated her most are the people who gave her a platform in the first place. Again - not interested in the quality of her content because I don't watch it. But her detractors have always been, and continue to be, the most stupid motherfuckers on the internet. Most complaints just seemed really mad she was analyzing games in a way people didn't like. People analyze a lot of media in a lot of ways.
