FF1 is a good game... in ways the best FF game that I've played, though I haven't beaten it.

Sure, what is your favorite party compisition for FF1? What about your favorite all of the same class party?

I love FF1 and need to play it again (thinking of doing an all BM party).

My least favorite all of the same class was all WM as it was boring/slow and not fun.

All black belts is a blast, but so is all black mages (just not as easy).

As far as my favorite non-all the same class party compisition, it's been awhile so I don't remember it so well, but I THINK It was something like Warrior/RM/RM/BM.

I like the fact all can cast spells, 3 can heal, 3 can cast good offensive magic (after class change). Warrior/Knigh and Red Mages are all good at taking a blow. It's a good over all combo of offense and defense, lets you use a variety of equipment and spells, and is just fun. There are stronger parties I'm sure, but I like the variety.

My favourite is probably Fighter, Red Mage, black mage, black mage for maximum AoE saturation

The favourite mono-party is weirdly 4x black belts since you can horde so many manual-use items

Edit: The best 'single charater challenge' character would probably be either Fighter or Thief. Thief is abnormally bad, but has enough luck to offset the run penalty for dead members and in some versions of the game has increased chances at preemptive strikes if leading the party

reminds me of Icewind Dale. sometimes I prefer pure-classes but then you have less options. othertimes I prefer multi-classes, but then you level up a lot more slowly.

my standard FF1 party is Warrior/Thief/BlackMage/WhiteMage which is basically a pure-class party. I'm not familiar enough with the other classes and/or late-game to know much else.

The problem with single character Thief runs is that after Astos you might as well quit because that's the biggest challenge
