Do you think it's time to end covid lotteries and free gifts to get people to get their shots?

Ohio's COVID-19 vaccine lottery DID NOT increase vaccination rates according to a new study from Boston University Researchers who compared adult vaccination rates before and after the Vax-a-Million lottery was introduced as conservatives and young people STILL failed to get the shot and it has not made them budge!!

They found that the lottery, that offered 5 million dollar prizes and college scholarships did not boost the rate in any way

It contradicts media reports where other states tried the same method with lotteries for vaccinations and even companies such as Microsoft offering free XBOX Series' X's has not increased rates

Although it didn't include children ages 12-15 access but they say it's important to phase out lotteries and other unsuccessful prizes and irect programs that actually help people get their shots

Ohio was the first state to introduce the vaccine lottery where residents enter to win a million dollars

Andy Slavitt at the time said Ohio saw an increase of 55% of vaccinations for young adults as Biden encouraged other states to set up lotteries of their own to encourage vaccinations including California, Maryland, New York but there is little evidence they boosted much

Dr Allan Walkey said "prior evaluations of the Ohio vaccine incentive lottery did not account for other changes in COVID-19 vaccination rates"

In Ohio, the daily vaccination rate declined from April to June from 485 shots for every 100,000 adults in the state to 101 for every 100,000. and in other U.S states without lotteries rate declined from 700 shots for every 100,000 adults to 97 for every 100,000

Ohio saw a slower decline in adult vaccinations compared to other states in May after the lottery was announced but not enough people got vaccinated to actually raise the state's vaccination rate

In other words, there is no evidence that the lottery did anything as conservatives have stood their ground that no incentive is changing their minds

This coincides with America's vaccination rate where only 55% have received 1 shot while only 48% are fully vaccinated.

Is it time to end the lotteries and free gifts like XBOX's to encourage vaccination?

a major downside of having schools largely funded by property taxes

in low income and very rural areas there are graduates that are taught next to nothing about the modern world and how to survive in it and avoid being bamboozled by propaganda

and now their ignorance has been monetized into a multi billion dollar industry

i think it's most stupid that people think a second civil war would ever actually happen

the mere fact that whichever side was going up against the military would lose because they have better shit than you, drones alone would devastate your army, is enough of a deterrent for one to happen. it's not like the 1800's any more, where both sides had the exact same stuff. whoever has the best technology wins now, hands down. whoever has the missiles, ladar, night vision, heat vision, lasers, drones in all shapes and sizes, remote controlled tanks, real-time gps. you think you're gonna just cobble up a gun to a dgi inspire and actually do anything, you're deluded.

and that's why anther civil war will actually never happen. because the other side, whichever it may be, has no chance of winning.

Direct bribes tend to work better than lottos. However, and more importantly, vaccine availability plays a big role. Because Biden did nothing to direct distribution, you have vast areas where people don't have easy access, including people who don't have transportation to go the 20+ miles it sometimes takes to reach a vaccination center.

(Granted, Biden's plan turned out to be identical to Trump's -- let the states handle it -- except Biden made bigger promises whereas Trump was clear on doing that all along.)

It's not 100% outside the realm of possibility. In fact, if America lasts long enough, it's bound to happen eventually.

Which is a stupid opinion that overlooks America's "Civil War" (or rather the second Revolution, because they wanted independence rather than taking over the country) *had* the literal military's support. It wasn't just groups of farmers with guns, it was the ACTUAL army and used ACTUAL officers and soldiers who served in previous wars, same as in the north.

Otherwise you rather stupidly believe that people would just line up to get hit by drones, which doesn't even happen overseas and is why we were never able to stamp out resistance in Afganistan and why the US is leaving with its tail between its legs and the Taliban taking over everything on the way out. In fact, it was such a total loss that Joke Biden decided to have the troop withdrawal pushed back to 9/11, to symbolize America's weakness and humiliation. America got its ass kicked by people who are greatly outmatched by US equipment.

America is great at winning traditional wars, but traditional wars are becoming rarer and rarer. If the US had a revolution tomorrow, it would likely be insurgent warfare where attempts to stamp out an insurrection with force would just dump fuel on the fire. Hell, the feds won't even quell riots half the time. However, even if you had a "Civil War" meaning a war of secession rather than a war for control of the central government, there's still only so much you can reasonably do. If California declared its independence tomorrow, what do you honestly think the government would do today?

Quite the opposite, actually. People are a lot more attracted to the idea of possibly winning a fabulous prize than being guaranteed to win a mediocre one, provided the cost of entry is low enough that they don't stop to really think about the odds (and even if they do, humans are notoriously bad at risk analysis, so they're still going to disproportionately favour the lottery). Consider it yourself: If you weren't planning to do something, would you be more inclined to change your plans because somebody offered you $10 or because somebody offered a 1/100,000 chance to win $1 million (or, better yet, an unspecified chance based on how many other people decided to go for it)? Lotteries provide greater motivation while also generally being much cheaper to run per person motivated.

There would likely be splits within the army.

In order for civil war to occur you would have a complete breakdown in most existing structures. The lines aren't easily drawn on a map. It would probably look more like mass riots than the classical view of a "war", even if in practice that's what it would be.

But that's unlikely to occur anytime soon. People are largely willing to subsist.
