47 y/o Former Alabama Tramp Teacher, Carrie Witt was sentenced to 18 months in the big house after she DEFENDED her decision to have SEX with her then 17 and 18 y/o students (now 22 and 23) that it was her god given CONSITUTIONAL RIGHT to do so!!

She was handed a 10 year sentence but will only spend over a yar behind bars as the rest was suspended and will be served on probation but will also register as a sex offender and do 18 months of community service

She offered a tearful apology for her actions stating "I'm ashamed. I don't think i've ever been more ashamed of myself."

One of her former students came to her DEFENSE telling the judge it was CONSENSUAL and he has NO REGRETS on having sex with her

Robert Tuten, her lawyer said she decided not to pursue a federal appeal because of the financial hardship and emotional toll it's taken and will accept this plea deal

She appeared somber and declined to answer reporters questions as she was led away to state prison

Her case drew national attention after it was discovered 5 years ago and when she used the consitutition to defend her actions

She also entered a "blind plea" where prosectors could reach a sentencing agreement of up to 20 yeaars

She taught history, psychology and social students and coached a girl's varsity golfing and cheerleading team

In 2017, her lawyers successfully argued under a 2010 law that made it a felony for a school employee to have sex with a student under 19 years old was unconstitutional claiming it was consensual and can only prosecute her for being a school employee that violated her 14th amendment right to privacy and equal protection.

They found no proof she used her position of authority to force the 2 students to have sex

The judge also noted that under alabama state law allows students to legally have sex at age 16 as long as someone doesn't use their position of authority to obtain consent

I don't know how I feel about that. 18 months served feels kinda light, but there's a pretty clear point of diminishing returns on these things.

I can't help but feel that a man who pursued a relationship with just *one* student would have got a harsher penalty than that, which makes it ridiculous considering she chased two.

Well, the constitution says nothing about sex as far as I know. States deal with AOC laws

Regardless of age of consent a teacher has a code of conduct to follow. Fair, next.

Since when does breaking a code of conduct mean you should be given jail time? The teachers are also supposed to be fair and impartial towards their students, if one grades something subjective, like an essay lower for a kid they dislike and higher for a kid they do like should they be locked up for that?

Also in most colleges a professor can date a student as long as they don't ha e any classes together, is that breaking the code of conduct? If not, would it be alright for a high school teacher to date a student as long as they weren't actually one of their teachers?

Its bullshit that she got jail considering the fellas ages, not to mention the op says at least one of them defended her.

She should just have lost her job since teachers should keep away from students.

People never care about that, apparently. Like that one lady who dated an 18 student. And I believe he wasnt even from the same school
