I started playing Pikmin 3 this week. Only a few days in, but I'd rank them: 3 > 1 > 2

I never beat 2 because I hated the caverns you went into with limited Pikmin. 3's been amazing so far though! Really digging these new Pikmin types.
:D

I haven't played the 3DS one, so idk how to rank that one.

That's generally what most people would agree with.

Pikmin 3 is much better on the Switch than it was on the Wii U, mainly because they got rid of the horrid touch screen controls.

Pikmin 3 feels shorter than the others though. At very least, the game ends at a point where it doesn't feel like it should end. I won't spoil anything though.

3 is definitely my favorite and the one I've replayed the most. It's hard to pick between 1 and 2 - I think I like the levels in 1 more but I liked controlling two captains in 2. I can agree with 3 > 1 > 2

I think I'd say they're all fairly even, with 3 trailing slightly. They're all great in different ways.

3>2>1

But the order could absolutely vary depending on what you're looking for. I think 3 wins out for offering far and away the most raw RTS goodness(having multiple captains actually matters here), for having the most elaborate plot(it's not a masterpiece of storytelling or anything but I was surprised by where they were willing to go with certain story beats), and for having the best multiplayer mode. Bingo Battle is a blast.

I think 2 comes out ahead of 1 because of the Treasure Hoard/Piklopedia as well as the sheer amount of main story content. There's a lot of padding and asset recycling, sure, but it's still the only Pikmin that you can't just 100% in a day and that's worth something.

1 is good for providing more of a challenge than the others as well as for its dark tone, which could be surprising if you're coming off the heels of 2 or 3.

I will say that, conceptually, I really liked 3's approach to a time limit (rather than the hard time limit of 1, you were limited by how much food you could collect, which was a more dynamic system for applying time pressure), but it was so easy to get to a point where you had more juice than you could ever use (excepting that one story event, though that issue quickly goes away) that the concept ultimately felt like a pointless addition. That was disappointing, given what a cool idea it was and how well hunting for food fit into the setting (as opposed to a lot of survival games where it feels tacked on or becomes more of a chore than anything else).

They could have cut the amount of juice fruit gives you in half and you'd still be able to take things at a more than leisurely pace. Fortunately mission mode provides legitimate challenge for those who want to flex their RTS skills.

I still haven't played 3, but I really liked 2 although it did rely on the caves too much, the overworld maps can be completed in like 2 ingame days and always having 2 captains felt needless. Either way it had a boatload of content to get through which was nice most of the time.

1>3>>2 for me.

Pikmin 3 is the better-crafted game, but I still prefer 1 just for nostalgia and simplicity's sake. Both are excellent and pretty close to evenly ranked in my books.

2 was a definite step back. It got too far over its skis and wound up being a less entertaining product as a result. The removal of the time limit just kills any sense of urgency or tension and some of the bosses are just obnoxious.
