Olympic hammer thrower Gwen Berry's history of offensive tweets has been uncovered after she snubbed the American national anthem during trials last weekend. Berry, 32, made a variety of tasteless jokes and observations in messages dating back up to ten years, but which are still visible on her account. The athlete - who has insisted that the National Anthem is racist - posted tweets mocking Chinese, Mexican and white people. Posts also include ill-judged jokes about rape, suggestions she would 'stomp on a child', as well as using the word '********', widely seen as being offensive and disrespectful, Fox News reported. The revelations come after Berry turned her back last weekend when the national anthem was being played after her Olympic qualifier. Toward the end of the anthem, Berry picked up a black T-shirt with the words 'Activist Athlete' emblazoned on the front, and draped it over her head. She has claimed that she was 'tricked' into being there at that moment, and was enraged and confused, insisting the anthem did not represent her - but that she still loves the United States.

On Friday, tweets she had posted earlier in her career began recirculating online. Critics pounced on the image, claiming it showed Berry was a fraud who only staged her protest on Sunday to raise her profile. 'Totally not all an act!' tweeted Donald Trump Jr. 'She was definitely not protesting to get attention for herself and/or maybe some of those woke Nike sponsorship dollars. 100% legit and not at all a cottage industry victimization scheme we see so much of these days.'

Freedom of Speech, 1st Amendment. Its their right as an American to represent America and disrespect it at the same time. Why should they show respect to the country that constantly disrespects them?

Seriously they shouldnt just stop at just turning their backs while the anthem plays, they should also sit down and stick the middle finger towards the flag. Or if they have a miniature U.S. flag with them on hand, throw it on the floor and step on it.

I hope more of the US Olympic athletes disrespect the US anthem, and even better if people in the crowds start booing when it plays.

And if the athletes win a medal, when theyre interviewed they should say its a medal/win for them, not for AmeriKKKa. Just s*** talk America as the real s***hole country. Maybe do a photo shoot with the Iranian & North Korean athletes in which theyre pointing to the U.S. flag & laughing.

Since when are rape jokes considered acceptable? Any time someone makes one Twitter rips their head off about it. I mean you wouldn't say "This porn is so hot I'm going to go sexually assault myself!" So how is this fine when she could have literally used a whole host of other words that would have been no big deal? It has to do with being in bad taste. Obviously the other racist stuff she said is worse, but that doesn't all of a sudden make this appropriate.

I think anthem protesting is sanctimonious, but finding dirt on her as an individual doesn't prove anything.

If the action of disrupting the anthem is wrong, it stands on its own as a wrongful action. It's not as if every protestor goes around making rape jokes and threatening to hurt white children.

Are you new to the internet? Back in the day people used rape in the same way they would use destroy. Internet culture has changed and its no longer acceptable, but it was back in the day.

Some of this is bad but the lack of ability to pick out what's actually racist is pretty fucking dumb and waters down your case.

Bad: "Mexicans don't care about people"
Not bad: "There's some white kids freaking out in Dairy Queens"

It's almost as if the people reporting this straight out don't understand bigotry and just did a Control+F for certain words
