Anybody else watch it yet?

There are so many things about it that make no sense, or are incredibly stupid. I was entertained though.

I just finished watching just now

I was very entertained at times, the set pieces were excellent, the design of the aliens were really cool (as was the reveal), the film certainly looks like it had a high budget because there weren't any points were I was like "this looks like shit", the sound design was great, and the acting was great

But the movie is just so dumb and the movie is long enough that it gets harder and harder to keep your brain turned off throughout

Nothing in the first 2/3 of the movie matters at all, the mcguffin ends up being meaningless because they end up blowing up the aliens in their ship with C4. There was no point to the future soldiers building a time machine and sending 2021 lemmings to die with P90s and 50 cal humvees when all they really needed to do was figure was where the aliens were... which a CEO and a high school kid were able to do

Besides that, it's a good, big budget, dumb summer action movie... that's just really dumb if you think about it for 5 minutes

So many things about the movie felt off or just made no sense. It had real star power and a large budget behind it, to say nothing of the long runtime. There was no excuse for it not to be incredible based on the premise alone.

It's made by Paramount, and they sold it to Amazon when they couldn't release it theatrically.

That sure was a movie. I can usually ignore because plot but that movie was rise of Skywalker because plot bad.

Set pieces, music and acting was good. The aliens are well done. And any excuse to see j.k. Simmons is a good excuse.

Just from the trailers, if you have time machine technology why the fuck are you using it to bring cannon fodder from the past instead of manipulating the timeline to win easily?

@Blbmbr666
Because they don't know when or where the aliens actually arrived so they can't do anything to stop them from coming. That was about the only glaring flaw in the plot that the movie actually addressed. Other such flaws include how they quickly convinced the whole world they were from the future, how they ever got the world to agree to fight the future war for them when we can't agree on anything in the present, why the future has lame regular weapons instead of something cool when 30 years is time enough to build a time machine, why we aren't sending them nukes instead of regular soldiers, etc.

I really thought:

that it was going to be some sort of time loop in which they end up causing the war by going into the future in the first place. It seemed like they were setting Chris Pratts character to be his father with the whole you came back and abandoned us speech from his daughter.

It's one of those movies where the action has so much CGI that my mind just kinda glazes over and I don't care what's happening. Like, Transformers style action. It takes me out of the action when it all looks like that.

I prefer more realistic down to earth action scenes.

The last third kind of annoyed me

Christ Pratt: Hey we have a poison that kills them. Using that we can either kill them when they first appear, or make enough of the toxin that when they do attack every army on Earth will be ready to kill them immediately.
Government: No.

I mean, that was kind of the point. He hated his father because he believed he would never abandon his family for any reason. Then he hears from his daughter that he did exactly that. And when he gets home, he realizes that what he's just been through has changed him, and he finally understands how someone could believe that the only way to protect the people they love is to leave them. And rather than repeat the cycle, he decides to give his father a second chance so that they could help each other heal together instead of fighting alone.

The character arc was great. It's the rest of the plot that was very forgettable.
