and our neeeewww SMFAS Champion, and the oldest series to win it all is Legend of the Galactic Heroes!

Though the results may not indicate it, this could be considered an upset in that Legend of the Galactic Heroes won the whole damn thing.
I've often maintained that within what it was trying to achieve, LotGH is basically a perfect show.
It's made deep runs in the past and by being so different from the rest of the contenders it was able over the years to get a steady drip of new users to check it out and find out that it really was a quality show.

It beats in My Hero Academia a great Weekly Shounen Jump series which has evolved from early comparisons to Naruto but with a green outfit to something that now stands out on its own. I'd say it's def worth checking out for anyone who enjoys battle series.

I legitimately never thought LotGH would ever stand a chance in a finals against a realistic opponent, but here we are.

Maybe I'll finally break my anime hiatus and watch Gaiden in celebration.

hey look at that all the people wanting to bitch about the final got it wrong. And thus continues my trend of supporting the losing show in the finals, even in a finals it was "supposed" to win! Funny how that works eh?

I did what I could, got MHA to the finals. Congrats to LotGH, it definitely has a niche fanbase but one that hyped itself up to gain steam. I do think part of this is a bit of anti-MHA backlash, it being the "favorite" and big WSJ show, but that definitely wasn't the main reason LotGH won here. LotGH fans are very passionate!

Galactic Heroes and MHA are both very much on my list of shows to watch eventually, but it's likely to be a long time before I get to either one.

The only shows on the list that I haven't seen/dropped that I want to are Monogatari, which just looks daunting, and Zombieland Saga which I tried to watch & apparently it wasn't available in my country on Funimation so I gave up.

Next year gonna try to get Lupin in it

I have a ton of shows that I really need to check out. I know almost nothing about over half the field here. Though with how long its been since I've watched some of my favorites I have to balance it with the constant impulse to rewatch what I already know.

I thought LotGH had peaked last year, and wouldn't really be a legitimate contender. Glad to be wrong, and see my favorite series win. It has come a long way since the first contest where it received no support outside my own. Thank you to everyone who helped it along the way.

I'm happy if my persistence in pushing it has led to any others finding a series that they enjoy. And for those who haven't seen it, I can't recommend it enough!

We now have back to back years where the winner finished third the previous year. Kaguya next???

I don't think I've ever been so wrong in anything in my life, and frankly, so embarrassed to be wrong. I was avoiding looking at the topic other than to make my saves. This is unbelievable.

Eternal thanks to Yankees who is the "Mumei" of LotGH albeit with zero aggressive pushing involved. I still remember thinking "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" was such a stupid name. But after Monster won I figured I'd give it a look... never expected it to be so good.

Slammed with meetings this afternoon but I gotta read through the topic and share more thoughts later. Thanks to anybody who saved it... I can't believe all those saves were from people who actually watched the show?? Would still recommend watching it if you haven't (30-day HiDive free trial!!)

It's a crazy contest when you think about it, even though SMFFFC is shaping up to be more active than ever, SMFAS was down a bit from last year. 4th hour save opportunities re-emerged in the top 20 which gave some more breathing room for trades. 2 steady traders could reliably get you to the top 10, 3 likely to the top 5. But the last few days always seem to come down to the margins and the desperation of the right users logging in and saving at the right time.

No way we should've survived Round 96 - I even had a screencap-laden elimination post ready to go - only for Evillordexdeath and brand new out-of-nowhere additions of FBike and Socko, +5 new saves between the three of them, and still just to force a 12-12 deadlock and the good fortune of Shonen_Bat getting the last save in before Monogatari did. Sometimes surviving just one more day really makes all the difference, I guess.

As far as next year goes, debating whether to abandon the contest entirely, which is probably for the best since I get way too wrapped up in the competition. But I also feel like I owe people for their support... so maybe just tapping back in somewhere in the endgame to give a bit of support to something that's left, or really trying to take things casually and just throwing in saves here or there, no trading, no actively scanning for rounds when they go up... I guess we'll see where things are 9-10 months from now.

I do believe Kaguya wins next year, so long as the duo of Ark and handsomeboy are back & backing it, with or without that 3rd season airing. If the 3rd place show keeps winning in the following year, that'd be funny...

And between now and then, I really need to get to work on the anime queue, which is basically in the same state as it was last year... these shows are currently on my hard drive (other than LotGH currently about 2/3 done the rewatch), alphabetical order, all never before watched except Monster:

@TheArkOfTurus I know Yankees mentioned this in the topic but never never never watch the Episode Previews, no matter how good an idea it may seem. If it's one of those episodes that cuts out the ED so it goes right from the episode ending to the preview, shut that shit off... I would usually skip the ED and go right to the next episode so it was never really a problem for me, but there's one time that comes to mind where I didn't, and from then on, never again lol.

Also I loved your episode recaps and am only sad they ended at episode 24, evidently 12 saves weren't enough! But glad you're watching & liking it! Feel free to PM me your thoughts on any episodes you come across.

But in checking those out I see this "Heroic Legend of Arslan" series by the same author, never heard of that series before, and assuming the writing of the LotGH novels are as high-quality as the anime, am thinking about looking into that... have you read them or heard anything about them?

I'd usually skip the ED, too, but I let it run while I was writing my thoughts. I think at this point the real danger is looking at an episode description on Hidive since it doesn't seem to just have a "next episode" button as far as I can see.

It would have been slightly better if I had watched two more episodes beforehand, huh?

But even then I was so worried about running afoul of episode titles/descriptions, even though it was a prequel so not like there'd be anything earth-shattering, I just really wanted to go in not knowing anything. I can definitely see that being a big problem.

And then anytime I was done watching episodes for that session I would "load" (change the URL number for) the next episode, bookmark it and close. So there's a bookmark ready to go whenever I resumed. That way I made it through the whole series without ever clicking thumbnails or glancing any titles/descriptions. Would recommend!

Oh yeah I fudged that, I think their page has the OVA as "Season 1" and Gaiden as "Season 2" but the tiling in the URL is probably different, like my example said gaiden, so forget that... good stuff though. Season 2 is probably my favourite season so, very excited.

There's also an Arslan anime series. It's not complete, but I might pick it up. Planning to rewatch LotGH first to celebrate this though. And I swear I will get to the books eventually.

Tytania is his other work that I would not recommend. I got pretty hyped for it when it was originally airing, but it doesn't have a lot going for it.

I saw Steins;Gate 0 dubbed and the original subbed. I thought the dub was fine, but preferred the subs for what it's worth

Eh, so rarely do I have a dub option that I just wanted to roll with it, especially since so much more focus going into subs too, lest you miss something... maybe "didn't like" is too harsh but seems like sub > dub is always the case for me. Like I was considering doing the dub on my Monster and Death Note rewatches but thinking it just won't feel the same, I gotta tap into the nostalgia vein there, hahaha.

What little I know about Steins;Gate makes me think it'll be something I like. Guess I'll stick to sub on that when i watch it... in the next 6 to 30 months.

I tend to be fine with dubs more often than most, but FtNW's was pretty bad. I tried to give the Monster dub a try once, but that definitely didn't feel right to me so I know what you mean.

I was a big subs > dub guy but the last three series that I watched during this contest (Tower of God, JJK, and Mob Psycho 100) was the dub. Honestly most dubs are pretty good these days so the difference is pretty minimal for me.

Oh yeah next year Chainsaw Man will be in the running for unaired shows with potential.
Can go either way given what MHA and JJK did.
