No spoilers I havent beaten it yet, but I've been really digging this game even though I didnt expect much. I only checked it out because I heard it has the best combat in an open world game, and honestly I can believe it. It's even better than Fromsoft combat. Also the focus on realism surprisingly results in the villages and castles being more interesting. Like the world is just beautiful in this game.

It's so weird to me this games seems largely over looked compared to other popular open world games. This is way superior to the Witcher 3 and it's actually pretty challenging and immersive. Like I've been addicted and I needed to gush. Easily in my top 5 games of the previous decade.

I heard many bad things about it initially, but after playing it, I really ended up enjoying it. Hell, it's one of the few games I played three times in a row in the last several generations. It's just a shame about the glitches, load times, and easily broken difficulty. But, hey -- the DLC is mostly enjoyable across the board and you really come to love those characters. Even playing friggin' farkle is fun...if you get cheating dice.

The load times are annoying yeah, but tbf glitches and easily broken difficulty are the norm for open world games. I dont think this game is as bad as Witcher 3 or Skyrim when it comes to that stuff.

its honestly one of my favorite games, its so good. I can't wait to get a high end CPU to run it on the maxxxest settings.

nothing in the woods? There is stuff in the woods... cumen encampments, roads that may or may not have ambushes from various people and not just one type of enemy, animals to hunt or poach.

Shit's awesome. It's one of the best games of all time IMO.

The first time you enter the woods it's like "Holy shit, these are gonna be amazing to explore. It looks so good". Then after 10 minutes of exploring you realize that there's nothing to actually see.

But i still got 30 hours in. It was alright. I could never get use to combat which kind of wore on me.

What's supposed to be in the woods? It's not a fantasy game so theres not gonna be monsters. Theres animals to hunt and enemy camps. And the combat is brilliant tbh.

I put like 130 hours into it during lockdown last year. As much as I enjoyed it, I'm not sure I could ever start it over again. I wouldn't call the combat great but there's more to it than I expected, though I never reached a point where fighting multiple enemies at once felt good. I think the thing that stood out the most was the character progression and how you can really feel yourself getting better at everything you do.

ELEX and kingdom come are very great imo.

Elex is the same developer as gothic and its their best game since gothic 2. The combat is jank, but the world, atmosphere and worldbuilding is amazing.

The mishmash of themes might feel weird at first, but as you play the game the mix of fantasy/sci-fi begins to make more sense and the worldbuilding is pretty good with tons of lore and information.

I really enjoyed a lot of aspects of it but the melee combat never clicked with me. Fists, bows and stealth all generally felt more intuitive or outright easier.

I got stuck/frustrated during a main quest story and never finished it, but the majority of quests were definitely more engaging than what Bethesda has to offer.

A lot of the bugs were fixed, but not all.

As for fighting multiple enemies, yeah, that's often unwise. There are points along the road where you can be ambushed by 2-3 heavily armored bandits, at which point it's better to run. It doesn't help that the game's archery (which actually is decent against armored enemies) is rather unwieldly and slow. Of course, if you can get onto a roof out of sword range -- which is possible in some areas -- you can just pick off those bastards.

Since I suck at archery, i often spread the enemies a part by running and having them follow me and then kill fight them one at a time that way. I often end up fighting one guy while another is trying to shoot arrows at me.

The only glitch I recall was two guard npcs who spawned in the same spot. But it boggles my mind anyone could think the combat us bad, especially by open world standards.

Do you have the DLC? You can have your immortal dog attack enemies by chomping their legs, setting up user-friendly kills in 2-on-1 situations. There's also a useful perk (Headcracker?) that lets you get instant knockouts on enemy headshots -- melee or ranged, IIRC -- with a certain proc%.

The dog can be "injured" and beat a retreat, but can't die permanently. If you mistreat it, though, it may shirk your commands and screw around. I usually send it home anyway 'cause, like many AI companions, they tend to block doorways and stand in front of you when you're aiming, etc.

The dog has its own perk tree, though, and can be trained to hunt animals for you. Pretty useful if you like doing those meat-gathering quests.

Yeah that's the only glitch I remember, and it only happened once.

Oh well I dunno the intricacies of the combat enough to tell you why that is. Maybe it's to do with weapon choice or stats? I think getting hit to the head with axes, hammers, and maces will take you down quickly no matter what. I never died in one hit though.

It was a glitch. Cause the hits never registered. When i reloaded and went to where the ambush was i fought the tunic wearing bastards and killed THEM in two hits. But for saftey measures after experincing that odd glitch twice more i ninjad up.

also had the duelist sword which was 74 attack
