Washington Square Park once again transformed into Madison Square Garden Friday night when another round of boxing matches broke out in the beleaguered Greenwich Village landmark. The Post witnessed hundreds of bloodthirsty spectators cheering on five unlicensed matches near the parks triumphal arch, including one contest that lasted six rounds. One amateur park pugilist screamed in agony as another man, apparently one of the organizers, helped him reset what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder. The boxing matches which feature a time keeper and referee are just one of several unlicensed or unlawful activities that have consumed Washington Square Park in recent months, including wide-spread crack and heroin use. Friday also saw another explosive night in the park, with illegal fireworks being set off yet again. I think its literally Fight Club, one frustrated park neighbor told The Post after a recent night of boxing there. those first guys really sucked, they shouldn't have had 5 people watching them. 2nd pair was much better, would have liked to see more of that.
