Yeah, different things can affect your tastes over time, such as time and basically anything else that affects the body. You might have liked Butterfinger once upon a time--I certainly loved the "fun size" and BBs as a kid--but not so much now, when the product itself is no different.

Most Europeans would argue that you only think that because you've spent your entire life eating shit pseudo-chocolate and thus have no idea what actual chocolate is supposed to taste like in the first place.

I have no opinion, though, because I've never really liked Ferrero Rocher either (though in my case it's mainly because I think hazelnut is ass).

That doesnt really matter, though. It taste different, and many people didnt like it. It doesnt matter if its better for you (which things better for you can usually end up tasting worse), or more better quality chocolate. If something taste different, people may like it less

Part of it is that a lot of American chocolate bars use cheap filler ingredients, but also here in the states we use South American cocoa which is more acidic and some people just dont like the taste of it

I'm not sure when, but at some point, the size of Reese's cups dropped quite significantly. That may just be a Canadian thing, reflecting changes in the costs of ingredients, but they're definitely smaller than they used to be, and I do not approve.

That part's probably a wash. Meant the higher % of cacao and milk and taking out the preservatives that are bad for health.

I bought the 10 butterfingers or w/e last year for the ff7 remake dlc, and they tasted WAY better than butterfingers used to taste. If you don't like the nice recipe, you must prefer an inferior product

Besides, if you want a butterfinger theres like... at least 4 other options for getting that kind of thing and texture

5th avenue and clark bars are like the same exact thing, zagnut is the same thing but with toasted coconut instead of chocolate coated, and chick-o-stick is like a zagnut but shaped differently

Still taste great to me. And I absolutely looove the Butterfinger peanut butter cups

Actually, taste is the sense most linked to memory, so when someone says something doesn't taste the way it should, that's as trustworthy a statement someone can make.

I've found a LOT of things taste different now, and when you look into it, you see production facilities have been moved, ownerships changed, recipes were altered to be a penny cheaper per item, etc.

It's a sad side effect of parasite capitalism.

BTW, just googled "butterfinger tastes weird", and there are lots of articles. One states the recipe changed in 2019, and many butterfinger eaters were not happy. However, surprisingly, the recipe changes were made to remove hydrogenated oils (which is a good thing), and to use more natural ingredients (another good thing), and more peanuts (good if you like peanuts).

Overall, the change was well received, and sales tripled.

So you are correct, it tastes different. It's not the same recipe.

I agree with other commenters, candies in America are garbage.

I've been avoiding sugar most of my life, and avoid American chocolate, because it's too sweet.

Haha was going to say "But I like Tony's Chocolonely", but then looking it up on Wikipedia, it's a Dutch company, so yeah... the few times I each chocolate, I'm not eating American chocolate.

There's "this chocolate has been sweetened so it doesn't taste like dirt," and then there's "actual chocolate is the sixth ingredient in this alleged chocolate." Sweetening chocolate is fair game. Passing off chocolate-flavoured sugar as "chocolate" is another matter entirely.
