For a while, there was a blanket statement that people would get in trouble for making comparisons to Hitler. The problem? A lot of the mods were frequently violating that rule themselves, so they eventually got rid of it and now people pretty frequently make Hitler comparisons despite the sheer stupidity of it. And I think the reason for some of the general rules getting tweaked was because mods found them too hard to follow themselves. Other rules are intact, but mods get a free pass while violating them and then you have protected posters who, among other things, have talked about wanting to run over posters with their car, who have suggested that it's okay to hurt cats, who on multiple occasions have used accusations of mental illness as an insult, who have suggested shooting other posters (then later went on to say that they wanted to do it themselves), and rather infamously you had a person advocating the American people overthrow their government the same week as the capitol riots. So no, not really. This applies to social media as well. I find it a little naive that people think they'll get 'total open freedom!!!!' from a site hosted by a private company. You also have a lot more 'do whatever' capability with Discord/other messaging apps, so there are alternatives. There are also plenty of completely unfettered horrible alternatives. I will take risks on PotD because ultimately, I don't really care. I still 'get it' probably 75% of the time I'm moderated. If I'm warned, it's a good break and probably worth the joke.
