LOLebron is out, Curry didn't get in, Nets got the boot as well, CP may be out of the rest of the games, we have Suns leading against the Clippers and now we have Hawks vs Bucks

Clippers and Suns have never won the championship and the other two haven't won in forever the Hawks in 1958 Bucks in 1971

What's so bad about it this year?

the NBA's biggest blessing is also its biggest curse -- star power. when lolbron and chef curry are facing off again, people get bored because it's the same players over and over. it's a part of just how the game is as well since there are only five people on the court at a time. the superstars draw so much attention that audiences will get bored when it's lebron vs whoever for the 57th time

flip side is also true which is what we're seeing now. im cool with under represented franchises being in the finals, but the problem is, who the fuck are these people? the biggest star is, what, trae young? the casual observer knows none of these players remaining and has no reason to watch.

it's a lose-lose for the league. and that doesn't even get into the fact that the whole sport is a fight for the final two minutes between a bunch of divas trying to run their respective teams and whining when things don't go their way. fuckin LeChina whining about how HE TOLD THEM that everyone was going to get hurt!!! once again trying to make the NBA all about him

I mean Giannis is a two-time MVP and has been in the playoffs a ton. And even tho he's hurt right now, Kawhi is a great playoff/Finals (esp) performer. There's still a lot of big names playing.

Fuck casuals they're bandwagonners, I haven't seen anyone wear a Curry or Golden State merch in 2 years now. Casuals are the bigger problem they're the ones who keep the young talent down because they're to ignorant to see past "stars" Casuals still don't know how good Luka is the fact that most don't even recognize Young is also embarrassing considering he was at the all stars last year as a starter, he even had a good year too.

On local (L.A.) radio, a guy observed that when he takes a jumper, there's a point where you can't tell if he's left or right handed. Take a look sometime - it's true.

What kind of development program do they have in Australia where a guy grows up allowed to hold the ball like that?

Yeah he's (listed) at 6'11 but that's a playground shooter's shot. He needs to break it down and start from scratch.

People legitimately thought he would be the next LeBron type of player. 6'11, can drive, pass, play defense and could score. He never had a shot but much like LeBron people thought it would get better over time. He never got better and regressed to a HS level offensive player. Seriously, there are some Seniors in HS right now who could drop more points than Simmons could in a game, and that's not something you want from a 1st overall pick.

He's such a liability late in the game as well. How can you have a ball handler who cant shoot fts? He has to defer to Embiid at half court because of how shitty he is at shooting. It's pathetic actually

Like, his handles, defense, and finishing are elite. His shooting is like a -10 tho. There was a video before G6 iirc where hes doing floaters and he misses every single one of them. Pre-game, no one guarding him.

This is also true, I don't enjoy the sport itself. But that does not mean I am unable to distinguish between a product vs. the concept. The concept is good. Basketball is a simple game and should be fun to watch. But the product that the NBA puts on is not a good one.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Each team basically has one leader who acts as the "face" of the given team of other warm bodies. Like Lebron = Lakers, Durant = Nets, Luka = Mavericks, etc.

When the "leader" is someone you know, you're more likely to watch (speaking generally to the crowd that is not a fan of any specific team remaining in the playoffs). When the "leader" is a giant "who?," you're probably not going to watch.

Basically... if you don't live in Phoenix, half of LA (or whatever proportion of LA fans are Clippers fans over Lakers fans), Atlanta, or Milwaukee, you aren't watching.

The reason other sports are less impacted by this issue is because the actual team that is fielded on a given play is much larger. NFL you've got 11. MLB has 9. Soccer (lol) has 10 or 11. Hockey I think only has 6, but that sport is fucking insane (in a cool way) and should be way more regarded than the NBA.

So when your team size is larger, you've got more "stars" from which to choose. You might not be a Rams/Cardinals/Falcons/Packers (just to use the NFL city equivalents of the remaining NBA teams), but you're more likely to have some connection to one of those four teams if you aren't a fan of the whole team. The talent pool is much larger and offers more reason to watch.
